Re: Scenario Review: SotBE 18 - Northern Alliance

Re: Campaign art - The Rise of Wesnoth

the eyes in that drawing look like big gems (very tempting for thiefs to grab 8) ) are they made of amber/sap? if closed maybe they would look like knots

Re: The Origin of (Wesnoth) Species, or: Half-Breeds in Wesn

why would yall assume that trolls (or any species in Wesnoth) have the same anatomy as other species? maybe they have no bones - have we ever seen a troll skeleton or lich? for example, since trolls typically live in deep cave areas, maybe they evolved or were originally created out of mushrooms. th...

Re: Campaign art - The Rise of Wesnoth

wow i love that Rithrandil sketch. i am curious about 2 things: 1. do woses have only 2 arms (perhaps because related to elves)? (not implying any desire to change the sketch) 2. could the rough sketches be used in campaigns where for example the player has not yet encountered a character but is jus...

Re: Trying to get the hang of backstabbing

The classic thing to do is use scouts and skirmishers for this. The fast unit runs around to the other side of the target and the backstabber does his thing. The dangerous Gryphon + Thief or Footpad + Thief combos. So far, I've never managed to use this well outside of RPG bosses and threatening pe...

Re: A POSSIBLE explanation for the genetics of Orc sizes

come to think of it the females can't always be bigger and stronger because we've had a few mainline campaigns where the orcs are led by big strong males. 3rd possibility: orcs/goblins use either hermaphroditic or asexual reproduction. there is precedent for both in various earth species. it ...

Re: A POSSIBLE explanation for the genetics of Orc sizes

 not all evolution is competitive genetics. there are also cooperating species - symbiosis is one example. so maybe they are like shark and remora.

 someone can correct me on this but i dont recall seeing a female orc warrior. maybe the goblins *are* the females (or vice versa ;) ).

Re: The Origin of (Wesnoth) Species, or: Half-Breeds in Wesn

People hate what they consider unnatural. That's why we see people so strongly protesting genetically-modified crops despite the higher yields and resistance to pests, etc. How much more unnatural can you get than necromancy? Also, consider that the punishment for witchcraft has been death in many ...

Re: The Origin of (Wesnoth) Species, or: Half-Breeds in Wesn

hmm. the Rise of the Elementalist add-on campaign parts 1 and 2 does use a 4 elements system and the level 0 and 1 elementals look non-humanoid except for the rock ones which resemble inukshuks. an add-on is obviously not canon but perhaps interesting for discussion. i dont know if the author of tha...

Re: Orcish Campaign: The Founding of Borstep (For 1.9 too!)

dang! i completely missed finding any secret passages :(
as far as beating the 1st scenario, the strategy i used was to rush an orc and 4 goblins down to the wolves but otherwise get out of the way to let the other two factions fight it out, and jump in to level some units when the enemy are weak.

Re: Rise of the Elementalist campaign

congrats! btw it looks like an awesome campaign, though i only finished 2 scenarios so far. [[edit]] ok i finished the campaign parts 1 and 2 and they were indeed really fun and challenging to play. regarding the final level of RotE the wisps were not a problem after the initial 3 or 4 were destroye...

Re: A Gryphon's Tale (BfW1.8)

this campaign has the best storyline and dialogue i've yet seen in BfW, though it could use some editing for anachronisms and length, as mentioned. the way the lead character has to face its assumptions/prejudices and make difficult ethical choices in the course of its career is as good as any fanta...
