Re: Path of Elements era

RL is eating the freetime I spend on wesnoth currently, and I am in more projects than I can sustain. So as unfortunate as it is, that project may be considered dead because even if someone wanted to take over I'd need to at least to clean the code from its bugs and general clumsiness before handing...

Re: [Request]Karma-ish luck system

@Gambit : I know there was no malice from Zachron bringing up his idea, or from you Gambit. What I suspect is that when Zachron proposed his idea he hadn't aknowledged or understood what I had said already, and that when you bumped his idea, you did not have understood what I had said either. It may...

Re: [Request]Karma-ish luck system

No hit probability less than 40% is in most cases the same as no defense rating greater than 60%. Ok, I think I got that already. Still, the contradiction was for me that in the 1st sentence I quoted, you imply that Hit Karma will be gained if the unit has 40% cth, while in the 2nd sentence, you im...

Re: [Request]Karma-ish luck system

However missing 10 times in a row against such units is a frustration that the developers wished for us to endure. I wholeheartedly disagree with this assumption. For the recall, missing 10 times in a row at 30% cth is about as likely to happen as missing 3 times in a row at 70% cth (~2.8% for the ...

Re: [Request]Karma-ish luck system

Taking the risk to repeat myself, the karma system you propose, Zachron, doesn't prevent long streaks of dodging to happen for units with a high defense, such as footpads, fencers and the other elusive foot, or even units with a defense going around 50-60% (the majority of units in the game). Missin...

Re: [Request] Less RNG swing system

For the recall, calculations shown that units on high defense are expected to receive more damages with the swing formula than without it, and that it has been evaluated how much the EV is higher after the formula. You may compare Tables 2-A, 2-E and 2-D (section 'standard expected value' and 'modif...

Re: [Request] Less RNG swing system

I did not understand that answer. It was concluded that a situation to exploit this significantly is really rare. Please elaborate what is being exploited. I know it's supposed to be in Daedal's message but I can't put my finger on it. :) The only situation I can think of is getting 5 hexes to attac...

Re: Some Suggestions for Improving the GUI & General Appearance

Why does the border stop at the hexes that are nonexistent? This makes little sense, and looks bad to anyone who notices. It looks unpolished and crude, and I believe it should be changed so that the faded brown bar extends all the way around the whole map. I used off_user terrain for the black par...

Re: [Request] Less RNG swing system

I don't know if I understand your formula right, psychic. But it seems to me that yours doesn't allow unit to hit above expected value.. It does allow that, definitely. The normal expected value for a 5-4 attack with 40% cth is equal to 8. However, the formula doesn't make impossible to have 2/4 hi...

Re: [Request] Less RNG swing system

I had a very positive first impression on the idea, however I suspected some problems, and was also curious as to how much the game would be different. To be honest what I saw kind of toned down my enthusiasm, but I'll let you judge on that. So I took some time into calculations to check what would ...

Re: [Request]Karma-ish luck system

*The "Karma Limit" for "Hit Karma" is 3 by default, but becomes the number of strikes of the weapon used if said strikes are greater than 3. (if "Hit Karma" is 0 it will always be possible to miss every strike) "Karma Limit" gets reset whenever Karma is reset. The first question to be asked here is...

Pango markup and labelisation.

Since 1.7.8, the way to edit the typography of messages changed to the quite explicit pango markup. I met 2 problems when I tried to label a map using this new method. The first is that although it was possible to write a small label through WML coding, with [label] x,y=... text=<small>small_text</s...

The match up idea is cool, but equal gold for the human & AI makes the challenge too low to really be impressive. :P Cheers up for your next attempt with more gold to AI!
