I didn't mean a perspective directly from the top, I meant from and upward angle. The same angle it is on most units. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

a little nitpick: Although it would be possible to throw and axe spinning sideways, it would look better if the perspective of the axe was from the top like it is for the units.

I believe we've had this discussion before with ahving units looks beaten and damaged when at low HP. For swarm it's a good idea, but requires too much artwork for every unit.

I like Eleazar's idea. Also, instead of having the light be a gradient, it should probably be decently intense throughout the entire beam itself. With your examples, it almost looks like it's a beam of mist instead of light. Either that or make the edges of the beam perfectly straight, in your examp...

IMO, bars that aren't straight aren't a good way to display a units HP at a quick glance. I also just don't like them. Something about the bars extending out seems aesthetically displeasing.
