If anything, gryphons should be weak to impact. Explanation: Gryphons are part bird, and birds have hollow bones to allow them to fly. Thus, impact would be more powerful in shattering their limbs and chest.

I'd have to say it really depends on the type of fire. Campfire has very thin "whipping flames". Bonfires are thick and almost look like an ameoba expanding and contracting. Fire shot from a flamethrower/breathed from a drake almost "explodes" outward and slightly upward.

The spear also looks thicker at the bottom and too thick for his little hands to possibly be wrapping around it.
