Re: KISS
@Exasperation: Yeah, right on. I like Canabalt--the mechanics themselves are very simple but the little details the forwards roll after a long jump and the doves flying away add a lot of atmosphere... @The Great Rings: Haha, I don't only like minimalist games. Admittedly, my tendency to play a game ...

KISS
So, we all know about KISS, and most of us (I hope) ascribe to it. But just how simple can you make a game, and still have it be "fun"? This is something I've been wondering for a while, and I started actively thinking about more a couple weeks ago when I had to come up with something to d...

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
I've probably come in here and said this before, but if so it was about ten pages ago, so time to renew the warranty. It's the level of polish that portraits like these give 'Noth that makes it so enjoyable to play--sure, I love games like Touhou and Black Shades with their simplistic/just plain bad...

Unless I'm mistaken, that's what he meant--that the Greeks didn't really have a concept of individual freedom and liberty.

Re: The Yokai
Yeah, uh...I liked this faction a lot, and it's kind of sad to see it (apparently) slipping through the cracks. I dunno as Melon still visits these forums ever (he was on in March, but...), or if he has any interest in having this continue, but I'd be willing to act as maintainer, if he wants... ......

Re: Campaign "checklist"
Good point--I can see that getting a little silly. In something like a Bond shooter where playing a level you've beaten on hard through again on easy is no big, but in Wesnoth, it's an entire campaign, and takes time no matter what the difficulty is...

Re: battleforge
Yeah, post it here, and we can help you make it better ;) There are loads of people on here willing to help you do this yourself--it's just that no one really wants to do it for you. So many of the new add-ons that get proposed here fail sooner or later that we don't have a whole lot of faith in pla...

Re: Well meow! (as in a catkin faction)
Somehow I feel like "fisherman" should be "fishing cat."
And you can't complain about it being a silly to use animal names, because it levels up into a catfish

Re: Campaign "checklist"
I wonder, would it be possible to make multiple wreaths show for each campaign, or would it just be the highest ranking one (as in, say you beat it on Easy and Hard, would it show that, or just show the Hard wreath)? I'm still on 1.5 (the ancient dev-branch 1.5, no less) so I have no idea how that w...

Re: battleforge
....in other words, you'll be better off at least getting your WML off the ground, and then trying your hand at making sprites yourself. Sure, they'll look bad at first, but it's better than nothing, right? But people will only want to help with your faction if they like it, and they can only come t...

Re: Art for Bad Moon Rising, again
Actually, archery gloves are pretty standard (as in, if you're taking up archery, they're one of the things that you must buy no matter what, it seems ;)) these days. The ones I've seen only cover past the last joint on ones fingers, but I imagine there are full-hand ones for colder weather. They ma...

Re: What are you reading right now?
Conversational Tagalog by Teresita Ramos. It's a great book, and I highly recommend it if you're wanting to teach yourself Tagalog--even though it's aimed at a class, most of the exercises can be done with one person, and it's cheap (I got my copy for $20). The attendant dictionary also has stress a...

Re: Woodmouse's sprites
I'm not sure, but I think using line width alone to make the branches appear tapered will look a little extreme--I'd start them off at two pixels wide, and use variations in color to make them appear tapered before narrowing them to one pixel.

Re: More work on Cliffs
Looking good-- definitely a big improvement 8) I'm not sure about making them rougher. It depends on whether they're volcanic or not, though, I think. The cliffs I'm used to seeing tend to be fairly smooth, but with huge piles of rocks that have fallen off at the bottom, but I seem to recall that th...
