Battle theme

Been a while. :) I thought I'd get the coming new year started off on a good note by writing a new battle theme. http://www.allacrost.org/staff/user/rain/Wesnoth09.mp3 Kind of intense, kind of heroic. Didn't have a pre-conceived idea on where the piece might fit. It's kind of quirky, but might work ...

Re: Dark Passage

I'm no Rain. Indeed you aren't, and for that you should be quite thankful. ;) PLEASE, no false pedestals. No one here is perfect, least of all me. To be honest, the chimes have grown on me. To clarify my position, I am of the thinking that too much of 'something' is far worse than not enough. Very ...

Re: Drake theme? (Volo Licens)

Nonnonono. I couldn't listen to that. It's really impossible to ignore. You are redlining like crazy in THAT section. I think my speakers were crying and/or screaming. THAT section is WAY TOO LOUD. Now here comes the hard part about composing with bad samples- you can't make them louder to be more e...

Re: A first attempt

Very subtle, West. :D Just take a mallet and bash me over the head with it. (my attention span seems to shorten on holidays) Anyways, IoN... I've heard the piece and have been waiting until I had sufficient time to comment on the direction that it's going. I think it's getting better but the sound o...

Re: an .ogg got lost?

Yea man, I got you. Being quite the bumbletard, I actually uploaded the ogg format but forgot to include OGG instead of mp3 in the main heading

http://www.allacrost.org/staff/user/rai ... attle6.ogg

Will someone please upload this to the trunk?

Thanks.

Re: an .ogg got lost?

Yea I just loaded up the ogg again but accidentally clicked on the window and last my progress just now. Anyways, yea. The piece was meant to be uploaded to the SVN but never did for one reason or another. (I actually thought it had already been loaded up) So it's good you are letting us know. Here ...

Re: Drake theme? (Volo Licens)

Since I've mostly finished Silver Wind (at least the orchestration, and that's the hardest part for me), I decided to try my hand at a drake theme, which I've always noticed was missing from the Wesnoth soundtrack. http://h1.ripway.com/alawemusic/volo.mp3 Thoughts? EDIT: This is, of course, complet...

Re: Dark Passage

West, I really like the creativity you put behind this piece. Given your other body of musical work (of what I've heard anyway), this piece seems like quite a stretch stylistically for you and it took me to some nice places. Not SCARY places mind you, but certainly ominous and foreboding. :p I have ...

Re: Mountain music

Hi Kobold. Please don't take these comments that you are getting the wrong way. Many of us started out composing at some point (and many of us listen to music enough) and I am sure most of us can remember how frustrating it was in the beginning to write music. That being said, I have to share the se...

Re: Misc Wesnoth Town Song

Hmmm, interesting. The simple nature of the melody reminds me a ton of both Celtic folk music and traditional Asian music. The second of the piece sounds like it could be an asian folk song of some sort. Unfortunately, I am not quite sure that this style would work for Wesnoth, especially for a midd...

Re: In Memory Of

Just listened to the piece. The bells in the opening sound good but they harden up and feel a bit too bright as the piece goes on. I think for a sort of memorial piece, the bells should probably be a bit softer. I like the gist of what you are going for with the chords and everything. It just seems ...

Re: SSO in action

You know, my dream library would be a completely custom made one. I know, it's a silly idea considering the crazy amount of work that would be involved, not to mention that I'd need top notch equipment, professional recording skills -- and an orchestra to sample! We have a quite good symphony orche...

Re: SSO in action

I think SAM specializes in nice sounding brass setups and VSL is really nice for realistic sounding Strings. EastWest is pretty good for background instruments, but the solo instruments, apart from the cello, just don't sound very human at all without a ton of tinkering... but then again, what doesn...
