Re: [Request]Reduce RNG influence
All of the above bugs should be fixed now. I also discovered a mistake in the implementation of smoothing (that happens when you think you are smarter than the inventor :P ). Seems quite reasonable now. There might be some issues left with rounding damage. I will see if i can talk with sauron about ...

Re: [Request]Reduce RNG influence
Currently the Damage Calculation option in the main menu crashes if you're starting a new scenario in a campaign, rather than starting a new campaign. :) This crash happens whether or not "Ask for each campaign scenario" is on, but it doesn't happen when starting a new campaign. Currently...

Re: [Request]Reduce RNG influence
Currently, even when loading an in-between save there is no option to change settings when "Ask" is on. :) Is it possible to make only the saves for in-between maps in a campaign trigger the "Ask for each campaign scenario" settings dialog, and all others don't? Hmm, i am not qu...

Re: [Request]Reduce RNG influence
Here is the next version with some enhancements: https://sourceforge.net/projects/wesnothxp/files/Wesnoth%20XP%201.8/wesnothxp-1.8-development-1.2.zip/download What is happening now - an existing campaign game with mainline settings needs to be loaded (without "Ask for every campaign scenario&q...

Re: [Request]Reduce RNG influence
As Steven correctly found out, there was still a bug left with detecting the right version (and therefore falling back to mainline if appropriate). Here is the fixed binary: https://sourceforge.net/projects/wesnothxp/files/Wesnoth%20XP%201.8/wesnothxp-1.8-development-1.1.zip/download Also, in contra...

Re: [Request]Reduce RNG influence
I think a very useful and important feature is this: Be able to query an in-map save or replay and get it's Damage Calculation settings; - So you would get "mainline" if the particular game/scenario is being played with mainline settings (this would also show up when loading up standard m...

Re: [Request]Reduce RNG influence
What do you think are good values (for the Damage split ratio % and RNG Smoothing) to start from? When i last tried the mod, 50% split ratio seemed quite reasonable, maybe 60%-75% if you want to be relatively safe from nasty RNG surprises. But 50% noticeably changes the "play feeling" alr...

Re: [Request]Reduce RNG influence
Ok, here we go for a first try: https://sourceforge.net/projects/wesnothxp/files/Wesnoth%20XP%201.8/wesnothxp-1.8-development-1.zip/download This implements: - The old mp lobby - RNG-reduction with Sauron's mod Keep a few things in mind: 1. It's a binary and it's only for windows. If there is someon...

Re: Do we need another era?
I think the mp community is highly split already: - rumble players - survival players - team players - mp campaign players - 30% xp players - isar's players - certain language players - ladder players - fun / competitive players Yet, i can't see that it harms the community in any way. Did i miss som...

No, that is not necessary, the tile defense is incorporated into "Total expected damage"Daedal wrote:I assume you mean this is going to be somehow added or multiplied into the current chance to hit based on tile defense.cth = ('Total expected damage'-'Total damage done')/'Total remaining damage

Re: [Request]Karma-ish luck system
I dare to contest this. What is the measure of luck? To me it is the deviation of the damage in game in relation to the Expected Value (EV), like it is displayed in the statistics. If we take action (by whatever means) to keep this deviation smaller, it means we are taking luck away, not introducin...

Re: [Request]Karma-ish luck system
4.Your hit probabilities are affected by your previous hits. In other words, your luck is affected by luck. This is, in essence, introducing more luck into the system instead of taking it away. The reason luck can be present in strategy games is because it can be managed, predicted, and used to you...

Re: [Request]Reduce RNG influence
I'm not convinced that reducing the RNG influence will automatically result in a balanced game. Consideration #1 - Shamans. Awesome en masse despite their apparently poor attack power due in large part to their slow attack. What happens if they start hitting more reliably? This isn't even an issue ...

Re: [Request]Karma-ish luck system
After all, sometimes you need to try something before you know whether it will work or not, and maybe as a result of the smoothing the factions can be balanced better. :) I for one will not dismiss smoothing out of hand. Yogibear, what do you think? I think we have to either stop the discussion her...

Re: [Request]Reduce RNG influence
...RNG-algorithm apply to campaigns. Any ideas on that? I suppose that if normal BfW is balanced for both MP and campaign play there's no reason that reduced luck BfW shouldn't be as well, but it won't be a non-trivial thing to accomplish and may require a different power distribution among units t...
