I think you are exaggerating. People rarely want to know 'why?'. In most cases yes/no is enough. Greying out is simple as that.

Scenario -> play single scenario with others -> Multiplayer

Multiplayer -> play with others including computer

Wouldn't it be nice if Wesnoth could talk to player? Of course the best would be recorded speeches with actors etc. But I am afraid that would make Wesnoth undistributable through the net. Upkeep of 1 would make higher level units too powerful.

Maybe flattening of payment curve a bit:
0 lvl - 0gp
1 lvl - 1gp
higher - 2gp

0,1 lvl - 1gp
2,3 lvl - 2gp
3,higher - 3gp

[Single scenario] will be one of the most used options to play I disagree. Campaigns are the intended form for Wesnoth, and I prefer them or playing with other people to playing single scenarios vs the AI. No, it isn't. This is a new unit and I can use the name 'chimaera' for whatever I please. The original Chimaera doesn't fly, breathes fire, and doesn't have any teleportation powers, either. I always thought the name 'chimaera' would be more suited to a cute little bird-thingy. You are ruining game...

Real hitting statistics

IMO most moaning about hitting is because in battle dialog there is only base chance to hit without including major factor - terrain. Include this and show real chance and there will be much less complaints.

When I am levelling mostly loyal units there is no difference when recalling 1st, 2nd or 3rd lvl units :)

Army of defeated leader

In most cases when you defeat last enemy leader you win. It doesn't matter if you did it with your last unit or in next turn your units would be crushed by remains of his army. OK But when you defeat not-last enemy leader remains of his army are fighting with you as nothing have happened. Illogical....
