Re: Khalifate Unit Naming

Just because it will probably save someone the work... Jundi (Soldier)- Muqatil (fighter) -> Muharib (Warrior) - Monawish (Skirmisher) -> Mighwar (Valiant one) Naffat (Oil Thrower) - Qatif al-nar (Fire thrower)-> Tineen (Dragon) Arif (Sergeant) - Ghazi (conqueror) -Khalid (great hero) - Mubariz (Gla...

Re: Khalifate feedback thread

Okay people, enough. This thread isn't about your views about what this faction should or should not be. It isn't about what you think the movetypes should be, nor is it what your ideas about its themes. Its distracting to us who are trying to accomplish something here. We want assistance with balan...

Re: Khalifate feedback thread

My biggest concern is that I don't understand the resistances at all. Most of the resistances of most of the units in Wesnoth are flavour-driven, and this is one of their strengths. Minor tweaks might be made for balance reasons, but the mechanics are resonant with our expectations: arrows are poor...

Re: A suggestion for improving multiplayer games.

so maybe i should categorize the use case of the "postpone" system further. for RPG and coliseum game, the afk issue probably could be addressed by the ":control" function, because letting another player to play one's turn probably won't affect the game too much. specifically for World Conquest (WC...

Re: The History of Wesnoth Forums

The final blow came when the Council [of Developers] harnessed their power and banished Turuk's general [Noy] and his lieutenants [irrevenant, Maeglin Dubh, and such]. Wow... when did this happen?!?!?! I'm so in the dark about these things as I'm clearly not a developer and I guess someone forgot t...

After banning you I tried to take a hands off approach... but I guess its at the point I should clarify what happened. So on Sunday I logged onto the server. I've never spoken to you directly before but other moderators have made a comment about your behavior. Upon entering you immediately PMed me a...

Re: Mainline: Make plague work on villages

I recently ran across this in a campaign: When a unit is killed by a Walking Corpse/Soulless on a village, they do not get plagued, i.e. they do not get turned into a Walking Corpse(WC). I wrongly reported this as a bug until I found out that it is intentional. To my understanding, the primary reas...

Re: Interesting medieval font

I don't see how using licenced, non-free fonts for creating artwork would be incompatible with GPL, because the font files would not be needed to be distributed with the game. Using them for the UI would be a different matter. The argument made by one is that you need to distribute them with the ga...

Re: Interesting medieval font

Thats also incompatible with GPL unfortunately. No, it isn't incompatible. We've had a bit of a discussion on this over IRC and while there is some disagreement on different interpretations, I think artists should continue to look for an alternative. If you find one that you like we can deal with t...

Re: Interesting medieval font

I am, and I have already suggested a change of the font (for artistic reasons as well), but there was no consensus reached about it. A non-free font could well be used, if a commercial license for it would be obtained by someone in the project. The license would have to cover installation of the fo...

- Statistics from replays. (It could help to find issues about map and overall balance.) We've generally come to the view that quantitative analysis really doesn't help with balancing, partly because there are so many variable involved. Not saying you shouldn't do it, but its not the balancing tool...

Re: [mainline] rename "poison" to "poison +8"

Again, IMO heals +x is fine and clearer. For poison(8), I think, this would be another possibility to poison +8 but it gets more unity if you choose poison +8. Okay let me make this clear for you because you're either being obtuse, either intentionally or not. Poison for all intents and purposes IS...

Re: Open Source and Capitalism

I'm writing a chapter on something related to this so let me make a couple of points. #1: Context is critical. What does the open source project aim to achieve? I would submit that what open source programmers want to achieve is very different from what a closed for profit developer wants. #2 Open s...

I know that Kyle has been working on this and will have a port out soon... you're welcome to start your own development port however.
