Actually, the mage of light is more powerful in every possible stat than the white mage. The illumination thing is hardly a problem since white mages are almost always paired up with lawful units, or neutral ones, and are lawful units themselves. Thus they get the equivalent of a +25% at crepuscule/...

And then, your units miss six times in a row and you lose half your army having been too reckless (possibly Kalenz or Delfador too)... Seriously, I always have the worst of luck when I do a reckless charge because I'm sure to win.

Good afternoon! I remembered princess of Wesnoth as being easy, but I checked my save and I had started with 860 gold... You can milk crossroads for gold, the armies aren't too strong and you can rush east and kill the orcish leader fast, even if you get a little less xp. Still, there aren't that ma...

Well, to be honest, in the custom campaign I'm writing (and I will finish it, there's just been a setback), the dwarf fighter got a split, namely: dwarf fighter -> dwarf steelclad -> dwarf champion -> dwarf nobleman -> dwarf lord The steelclad -> champion line is roughly the standard level-up and th...

You do realize that THE most sensible application would be rangers getting skirmisher in forests ... (they already feel a little overpowered)

Little question about WML

Good afternoon! Would it be possible to code in WML an event so that an unit reaching the border of the map is removed from the battlefield but placed in the recall list on the next scenario? If so, how? I guess I could use [store_unit] in a variable and [unstore_unit] it just before the end of the ...

Good afternoon! I don't really think this is necessary. There already is a defend action in Wesnoth : not moving the unit. It's a tactical choice in the strictest sense of the term. You position units in a way to stop the ennemy via zones of control and don't attack, even if you could, so as to pres...

Good afternoon. This could be a lot of fun. I don't think it's Wesnothish and would probably require a lot of coding, but say if you come to a keep square, by having your leader on a connected castle tile and a lvl 2 unit on the keep, you could make him a lieutenant, give him a certain amount of you...

Good afternoon! I don't think he's overpowered. Sure, he shoots three times, but out of a base damage of 9, 12 with dextrous. Bowman, for instance, has a base melee damage of 12, 14 with strong, and elvish archer has a base melee damage of 10, 12 with strong. Furthermore, if an elvish fighter does a...

Good afternoon! Now, I'm willing to take Dave's affirmation there is nothing wrong with the randomness in Wesnoth at face value, but I think the randomness is fair but has too much deviation, i.e. it works out but it creates too many exceptions. Still, if anyone is willing to create a new random num...

Okay, let's take it slowly. Let's forget about the first strike for now, and concentrate on the damage. Base damage difference is way too tiny for us to spend too much attention on it (32 vs 30, wow, almost a 7% difference). Against drakes, swordsmen get a little less damage from the generally blade...

Good afternoon! I don't know why it doesn't work. Normally, if the unit .cfg files have been placed in your Wesnoth/data/units folder, it should work... On the other hand, I will soon upload a new version which no longer needs any changes to the root structure, i.e. you only unzip it straight to you...

Swordsmen an Pikemen

Good afternoon! The unit stats have been changed in 0.9.4, and after I took a look, I can't help but wonder : is there any reason anyone would choose swordsman over pikeman? Think about it, they do basically the same amount of damage, BUT the pikeman has first strike which essentially makes it bette...

Problems with map editor

Good afternoon! I've downloaded and installed version 0.9.4 for Windows recently and have discovered there's a problem with the map editor : it runs fine but if I try to save the map, it tells me "illegal character in file name" and won't save it. It didn't use to do this in 0.9.1 and I can't seem t...

Good morning! The real question isn't why it would take that long. If you ask me, could you read a small book in a week, I'd say yes, but I can also take 25 years... If Dave doesn't mind, I'll offer an alternative, more plausible explanation: King Haldric II went to a dwarf and said : "I want a scep...
