I've had my ass handed to me in the past while arguing with Temuchin Khan, but I'll risk it once more to say that, AFAIK, 'yeoman' is a purely Anglo-Saxon term. Maybe use 'bondi' instead? About the Aesir, my point was that I'm not sure all of the Aesir are known by name, or fame, so maybe they could...

On the names - Yeah, Jarl isnt the best. But I was thinknig this faction should have axewielders, shield+axe, shield+sword, spearmen, and archers. A few names I dug up which might be interesting: Leidanger The 'Leidang' was an assembly of free farmers who would come together for defensive warfare o...

Tell you what, why don't we set up a time when we can both be on the server? After experimentation, it seems I can never be on the server... The official BFW server requires version 1.3.6, which I have yet to download. So, until I find a spare six hours to download it, it seems play-testing will ha...

A cool idea, just a few things I'd like to mention: Thrall (spearman) -> Seaxon (swordsman) -> Huskarl -> Ljoskarl -> Jarl (archer) -> HusJarl First off, a jarl was a Scandinavian nobleman (note similarity to earl). I may be wrong, but I don't think archery was all that greatly prized -as a military...

Are you ever about on the 1.3.6 server? This demands proper playtesting. The AI is a terrible way to test balance. Agreed. The AI is terrible, but I'm indeed not much in the habit of going on the server. Tell you what, why don't we set up a time when we can both be on the server? I'm usually on the...

I think what happens rather is that undead are vaguely over-represented as ennemies in campaigns (or, more precisely, you will sooner or later come up to a "kill the necromancer" scenario), and for some reason, skeletons are always a big part of the undead forces. As an aside, I really think giving ...

On its own it couldn't carry the faction the way grunts do for northerners, say, but coupled with the unusually-good (but offensively lacking) archers it could work. That was, more or less, the point. I've implemented the idea, and it seems to work out fine. I assume that this is for dev branch due...

Classically centaurs are sometimes associated with archery (or at least Cheiron was), so maybe they could act as a ranged-heavy scout. If I remember my Greek mythology correctly -and I don't claim that I do- Chiron was indeed a skilled archer and a wise man (well, centaur), but he was an exception....

First, an apology. I was way too abrupt with Qes, to the point of impoliteness, and I apologise for it. I appreciate suggestions and feedback, including those I disagree with, and I hope there are no hard feelings. That being said, my opinion on vampires and dark lords remains the same. Including a...

Again it's not that there's anything wrong with the individual units of the faction, it's just that as far as the faction as a whole there is no solid melee grunt. Skeletons, spearmen, orc grunts, elvish/dwarvish/drake fighters... I think we're agreeing without coming to the same conclusion. I thin...

well, one obvious problem is that you're re-using the same id over and over again... identifiers are meant to be unique. Unfortunately, fixing that did nothing towards solving the problem. "Complex" weapon special WML like this seems to me to be extremely buggy. All those apply_to=, active_on=, fil...

What's wrong with this?

I've hit a snag while coding a weapon special. #define WEAPON_SPECIAL_FCHARGE_2 [damage] id=fcharge name="fearsome charge" name_inactive= _ "fearsome charge" description= _ "Fearsome: On attack, this unit deals double damage, but also takes double damage from units of equal or higher level." multipl...

First of all, I've improved (I think) the artwork a little to make it more palatable in-game. The Dark Knights look way better now with the blacker horse (still not great though), and the wolves, while less original now, look much much better. Check out the first post for the updated art. Second of ...

First of all, there is now placeholder art for all of the units. It's not great, but it's okay. Given the quick finish of art, I'll allow one or two more days to do some very rough balancing, and then I plan to release. A first balancing decision is already done: The weapon special of the dark rider...

Darklands MP

Basic Idea There was, a little while back , a discussion on a possible 'vampire faction', and I explicited my idea of a faction of dark, ruthless warlords and his thuggish troops. The faction there seems to have been left unattended, so I'd like to recuperate the 'Dark Lords' concept for a quick fa...
