I made my wesnoth music thingy with sibelius 2.

That's the file i recorded, I just pushed play in sibelius and recorded it with something called soundpad or something. I think sibelius is easier and faster than finale.

finale has something called finale notepad (i think) and thats rather limited compared to finale but it is free and can open finale files

edit:

but it looks like the free version doesn' t allow you to import/export midi
