Re: Scenario Review: THoT 10 - The Siege of Kal Kartha

(1) What difficulty levels have you played the scenario on? MEdium (2) How difficult did you find the scenario? (1-10) 10. It's just a mad dash to get to the other side. I've yet to win it as my force doesn't make it before the dwarf king is killed. The orcs don't care a whit for my forces and he ca...

Re: Invasion from the Unknown

Playing medium difficulty and I think several of the levels are too hard. The maps are very complex and you have to do things in the right order, so you can never do them right the first time (unless you are very very lucky). Strike on New Knalga is ridiculously hard with an overwhelming number of e...

Re: South Guard 8b. The Tides of War

(1) What difficulty levels and game versions have you played the scenario on? Hard, 1.6 (2) How difficult did you find the scenario? (1-10) Very hard. Took me a dozen attempts or so. Finally got him by sending a trio of cavalry along with Hylas around to the west and south while I held off the atta...

A little historical research could clear up what exactly "skirmishing" means. As i understand it "to skirmish" actually means to make kind of hit and run attacks against a line Skirmishes are not little battles inside big ones, or small attacks against a large army, but small bat...

Assasin wrote:Horse units are too big to really be skirmishers. The skirmishers that were used were small units of foot soliders. They were quick, carried small weapons, and were silent. Horses are incapable of doing that.
I don't think this is accurate. Cavalry can be involved in skirmishes.

There has been the quite reasonable suggestion not to use adjectives, but nouns (day/night), or diurnal/nocturnal. It seems to me that the lawful/chaotic axis isn't prevalent in the game (e.g., thieves come to fight with Konrad), and that's the source of the "grumbling", as you put it, whi...

Personally I still like units having alignments that are lawful/neutral/chaotic. This reflects the deeply-seeded Wesnothian belief and outlook that the day is governed by forces of law and order, and the night by chaos. Dave, Does the number of people who find it unsatisfactory function as a workin...

Actually, we had moved on to the meanings of "summon" and "raise". I was in effect arguing what you are, that summon and raise don't have to mean what Disto says they do, they can mean other things. (As for necromancy and nigromancy, that involves a confusion over the origin of t...

That would be fine, but why not also change the internal wording to be more obvious? Since it wouldn't be seen externally, it could be "day" and "night".

Disto wrote:Summoning the dead is just summoning the spirit into something, so basically raising i suppose.
You're missing my point. These words don't have to mean what you keep saying they mean.

Summoning is where you bring it from somewhere else and make it do what you want, stuff like elementals and demons, Raising is where you take the corpse and bind it to your will, graveyards are a good place for this As with most of these sorts of fantasy/sci-fi/mythical activities, I don't think &q...

I was going by the description above. I thought "raising skeletons" was different.

level 3A. strictily improved version of necromancer. This includes getting a second plague attack to raise skeletons. It would remain human. "The Summoner - Well skilled in the dark arts, Summoners have moved beyond merely communicating with the deceased and are able to summon undead warriors ...

How does this help? Necromancers don't have to be able to raise the dead, so we can put them anywhere in this.

It is the opposite of chaotic.

I'd prefer going with something like "daytime" and "nighttime".
