Re: Dunefolk Rework - Base Units

They are already in the units database. http://units.wesnoth.org/1.15/mainline/en_US/mainline.html#Dunefolk Often I do like doofus's work, but in this case I would really prefer the previous version of skirmisher line. They became more squat now and also you cannot even distinguish that they are fem...

Re: Descent into Darkness

I've just finished translating new revison of Descent into Darkness into Russian and I want to say that I really like the campaign's storyline and new revisions in particular. It was a pleasure to translate it. In contrast to the experience with South Guard which was also reworked some time ago, but...

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Descriptions

Translating Sunderer... ______________ Among the many different type of Dune horsemen, there are those who most enjoy the frantic melee at the heart of battle. Those who are so disposed—and skilled enough to survive multiple skirmishes—are recruited into the ranks of the Sunderers. As sturdy, robust...

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Descriptions

FYI, changing some unit names as listed here: https://github.com/wesnoth/wesnoth/pull/4520. I think I'm likely to put them in as they're listed now. Still up for consideration: Dervish, Horse Archer (Swiftrider). Thank you. I had exactly the same idea about Horse Archer at lvl2 (it could be on lvl1...

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Descriptions

but in Russian this is too long phrase, really (Танцующий с мечами), And there's no ways to shorten it without losing the meaning? Google tells me that this phrase translates as "dancing with swords", which would be too long in English as well. Does Russian not have affixes or word compounding conv...

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Descriptions

Try doing an image search for "dervish fantasy"; when I do that I get quite a few with dual swords. I also see many images with big scythes too. Probably in modern games the word Dervish got a new meaning but I must admit that I do not play modern games. For me Dervishes is a sect of wandering musl...

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Descriptions

But for me, the name "dervish" is predicated on the use of two swords, so removing that would in my opinion make the name less suitable. I would happy if it would be so, but if see no signs of that meaning even in English if you search yahoo images, for example. In Russian there is a word Dervish a...

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Descriptions

The Elvish Fighter also does not have a visible bow, for the record. But there is also an Elvish Archer! Fighters are more melee-oriented so it is logical that their sprites and portraits accented on swords whenever Archers accented on Bows. Everything is known in comparison. Now look at the descri...

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Descriptions

Well, a unit with two daggers named: Slasher. But a description says about archery and a portrait displays a naga with a bow in hands. Unit is using same portrait as UtbS Naga as it visually would fit, but it is considered a placeholder atm. In case the unit design is not yet clear, this naga is su...

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Descriptions

Nope, the description tells about archery whenever in the base frame of the unit you even cannot see that this naga has a bow equipped! You have a point here, the naga should probably have a bow slung across its back, at least. It has a bow slung across its back! While translating I started dealing...

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Descriptions

I have one little question. Skirmisher line sprites looks female and also are coded as female-only units in unit files. Is this intentionally that there is no explanation (even hint) of why these units are female-only in descriptions? I know that from equality point of view, it can be said that if t...

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Descriptions

That is the part I actually wanted to clear up. That is not supposed to be chainmail. That's supposed to be scale armour or call it small-plated armour (dunno the right terminology). I agree, I do emphasis on that this is metal armor and that metal armor all over old khalifate fraction was painted ...

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Descriptions

Yeah in your comparison I can clearly see that Ranger is wearing something other than chainmal. Of course Ranger is not wearing chainmail skirt. He is wearing a skirt made of metal plates. :augh: They are metal because they are look like metal and also because lvl2 unit wearing a metal chain. Logic...

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Descriptions

after hearing all of this, the points you are making regarding the sprites and the look of the units are rather subjective. The Rover lv ups wear something as armour, but that ain't iron or any other metal. As far as I know It could be either leather or bones/scales. They even could be roc feathers...

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Descriptions

It seems like most of your issue with the current state of Dunefolk come from earlier revisions made by Noy, the SpaceInvader and others. Khalifate and Dunefolk were around for a long time and while you might have some valid points, problems such as these should have been expressed earlier. we are ...
