Assigning gender based names through consonants is fairly basic for any species. Even lizards would probably come up with a better name system then one letter for male another for females... Silver Mages actually have really good resistances against other magical attacks, so make perfect mage-killers - which their mobility only adds to. So I’d say they’re not so bland.

If it's simple, why not? It'll add a bit of flavour to the Saurians without taking up as much time as making up a whole new set of names.

I'm glad you like the graphics. The blood animation is achieved with different methods for custom units and for core Wesnoth units. It's not a drastic difference, it can mostly be caught in the timing of the blood-spray, and also with core Wesnoth units the last hit of the fight won't trigger blood...

I like the idea for a ranged unit gaining more experience by fighting in melee - it creates a real risk/reward tradeoff.

Could a simple solution be to give Saurian names a gender prefix or suffix? Something simple, like an A- before male names, and a B- before female names?

I'm not entirely sure how the name generator works.

As long as the new files have the same names as the ones they replaced, you should be able to simply swap them. If they don't, it gets a bit more complicated.
