Re: Increase multiplayer numbers?

Yeah, and here's the difference between all those projects and Wesnoth: When someone tries to do something, the dev team doesn't start trolling/flaming them until they drive them off. That's why they get more dev done in six months than Wesnoth has had in a decade. I say I'll make a thread to track ...

Re: Increase multiplayer numbers?

Wesnoth development in a nutshell. And you guys complain about negativity and the size of the dev team. This is by far the most unfriendly open source project I've ever seen. You chase off anyone who tried to help, and then wonder why no one sticks around.

(1) What difficulty levels and game versions have you played the scenario on? 1.14.7 "Soldier/Normal" (2) How difficult did you find the scenario? (1-10) 1 with reloads. 5 without. (3) How clear did you find the scenario objectives? Perfectly. (4) How clear and interesting did you find the dialog an...

Re: Increase multiplayer numbers?

If Wesnoth becomes popular enough for that to be a problem, then that could be an option. Otherwise, it's silly to have such a page when it would currently be almost entirely blank. The same could be said of adding a sub-forum. There is zero cost to adding such a page. I could do it in less than 5 ...

Re: Optional player's rating

It's also not always fault of who looses connection, maybe he simply can't fix it, or he has an power outage cause bad weather or other reasons, his computer or the game crashes, or he faints lol. For this I'm usually very flexible with my opponents in case of problems. Your internet, your problem....

Re: Optional player's rating

I feel like this is beating a dead horse at this point, so let me be completely clear: This has previously been a problem for Wesnoth. If there are things we can take and use from how other communities have done this, then great. But ultimately, I don't care about the sheer number of other games an...

Re: Increase multiplayer numbers?

No one is scrolling through posts. There is a SINGLE post with a list that looks something like this: Open Tournaments: X: Brief Description: Link Y: Brief Description: Link Open Leagues: A: Brief Description: Link B: Brief Description: Link Upcoming Events: Q: Brief Description: Link O: Brief Descr...

Re: Increase multiplayer numbers?

It would be visible in the same way the iOS Support forum is under Technical Support. So it would be visible from the main forum page, and at the very top of the page, which sounds more visible than a sticky thread someone would need to go into a particular forum to be able to see, actually. The iO...

Re: Optional player's rating

Historically, there has been a feeling that MP in general, and the ladder in particular, were unwanted sources of conflict and drama. Again, thousands of other games manage to have multiplayer and ranked, without devolving into toxic cesspools. Either the weight of evidence proves that this is a no...

Re: Increase multiplayer numbers?

Said link to the Ladder already exists, in fact: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=34903 No, that's a single link buried in a pile of other links, in an unrelated topic. I'm talking about a single topic, stickied somewhere (preferably linked in several places) visible, that has up to date links to whatever tourn...

Re: Optional player's rating

The ladder has 25 players, and less than 50 games a week. It already has collapsed. One post from nearly a decade ago is not proof that a functional ladder is impossible. What, specifically, makes implementing ranked so difficult in Wesnoth?

Re: Optional player's rating

Moving forward without considering the possible outcomes is a very good way to have unintended consequences. Moreover, it seems rather unlikely that out of all the thousands of games spanning decades that have had ranked matches, there have been none where it proved detrimental. So essentially sayi...

Re: Optional player's rating

Why would ranked play effect the Wesnoth community any differently than how it affects any other community? Again, there are literally thousands of games with ranking systems, stretching back decades. As far as I know, there has never been a game that suddenly imploded on itself because ranking was ...

It would make a useful Discord/IRC channel as well. A number of games I play use them to great effect.

Re: Optional player's rating

There's a lot of worrying about weird edge cases and already solved problems in this thread. There are thousands of games with rating systems and millions of players in them all over the world dealing with these problems every day. If they can handle it, so can we. Don't want a rating? Fine, make th...
