How does a save get corrupted?

i just started a campaign on hard for the first time, i really like The rise of wesnoth so i tried it, got past the first scenario but now im somewhat stuck on the second scenario. I cant beat the outlaws quickly enough without huge casualties, i guess i should have gotten 2 white mages in the first...

If you are northeners you don't need to bank, just recruit goblin spearmans and you will get an economic advantage quickly, while being able to kill mages and other ranged units that may attack your base

I rarely save-load to get good rolls, but i do have a tendency to save-load to get the best traits for the units like strong-res spearman, quick-res mage, etc.

Is it considering cheating?

Since the lich need to die to finish this scenario, i decided i might as well put him in a village and see how many units could i kill till i died.
But enemy units dont attack me at all i kill a whole 2.6k gold army with 1 unit

So is this scenario beatable? The foolish hero now has 2.4k gold but its no match for my 48 HP spectres
And now there is a 2.6k gold loyalist, i guess i can keep going forever, does it ever end?

Well, i got as far as shoutbay in winter, and basically its the same way all over the campaign, except that now i have a powerful ally that pretty muchs kill everything, so its a bit frustating, because of no exp. Btw i think i got a pretty impressive recall list 3 Archmages 1-kill to lvl 1 Great Ma...
