Re: Poll: do orcs eat humans?

btw, proverbial two cents: if you're trying to follow Tolkien's lead I do not remember the author himself saying anything on the issue. It's been about 15 years since I read Lord of the Rings , and I don't have a copy in front of me, so I can't verify the exact quotes, but according to Wikipedia : ...

Re: BfW is a game that relies on save-scumming too much

That's true, but I wonder why you quote me while saying that? :hmm: Typically in difficult scenarios there is only going to be one way to win (or at least, a narrow range of strategies/tactics needed to win). The challenge is finding it. It would be unusual (though perhaps not impossible) to find a...

Re: BfW is a game that relies on save-scumming too much

It seems to boil down to you wanting every single player that plays your campaign to have no other choice but to play it in one specific way. Or putting it in different words, noone should be allowed to play it unless they follow your specific design. Is that about right? :hmm: If it makes no diffe...

Re: Poll: do orcs eat humans?

This pull request contains quotes regarding "orcs eat humans". Reworking those lines is currently under consideration. Just to clarify: not all those quotes are referring specifically to humans - the first quote seems to refer to merfolk, and one of the other quotes is from Northern Rebirth and is ...

Re: Wings of Victory 0.9.5-RC2 (Drake Campaign for BfW 1.14)

No, there are most definitely not plenty of any creatures to eat, given the population pressures. The mechanics of the first scenario belies your statement. If nothing else, there are plenty of rabbits. Keep in mind WINR when it comes to mechanics. That is, there may appear to be lots of edible ani...

Re: Wings of Victory 0.9.5-RC2 (Drake Campaign for BfW 1.14)

I've literally never seen anything to suggest that orcs eat other sentient races. Is it in mainline? "Smells like lots of death in the south. There must be a good feast near that merman town." "Ah, another human is approaching... yes... more meat for my war-band..." "While I have no love for it, wi...

Re: Wings of Victory 0.9.5-RC2 (Drake Campaign for BfW 1.14)

It would be good to have the Saurian's appearance as standard as they don't get much attention in mainline. That is a really good point, if I recall correctly, the player never gets to control saurian units in any existing mainline campaign. In Son of the Black-Eye in later scenarios you get sauria...

Re: Wesnoth Wiki scope

Thanks for the response. I was vaguely aware of these pages, but you're quite right: they are lacking maintenance. I haven't found any forums/wiki discussion pages which say this explicitly, but I'm guessing that the community would prefer for these to be brought up to scratch before perhaps splitt...

Re: Wesnoth Wiki scope

I'm curious to know what the intended scope of the Wesnoth wiki is expected to be. Most game wikis (generally hosted on Wikia) have a large amount of lore and dedicate pages to all characters/scenarios/locations (for instance, wowwiki.fandom.com). The Wesnoth wiki seems primarily focused on advice ...

I don't know if you've seen it or not, but there is a tutorial designed for beginners:

This will explain things like what a "tag" is, etc.

Re: Shouldn't a STONE CASTLE provide more defense than a wooden palisade?

I think (this was long before I started playing the game) in the beginning all castles were stone, and then some of them were changed to different materials as people created new graphics. Re: BfW is a game that relies on save-scumming too much

I am sure that many heroes and loyal units is great. In Chapter III of my campaign there are 9 loyal units and 8 heroes at some moment. But it is ok if your enemy has only lvl1 units and you have a meat to recruit. I haven't played that campaign so I can't comment on it specifically but in general ...

Re: BfW is a game that relies on save-scumming too much

It's really bad when you lose loyal units or heroes that way. Well, there's your problem. Apparently, you are putting your important units in positions where they can die. I've noticed that some campaigns tend to force the player to rely on loyal/hero units too much. (Usually UMC; mainline campaign...

Re: A Song of Fire: SP Campaign Feedback and Reviews

I am new to BfW but not to that kind of games. But I guess You are right. It is always a shame that one can't experience great campaigns in a new game as long as one tries to learn the fine mechanics of a game and makes a lot of beginner mistakes. Replaying these campaigns later is not much fun. Wo...
