Re: Lordbob's commissionned work: UtBS
As far as the spike on the back of Kaleh's blade is concerned, something like the sheath of a Pulaski makes sense to me:

Basically just a cap on a strap attached to the rest of the scabbard.

Re: Lovecraft's Deep Ones (New here)
Would it make sense for the cultists to evolve into star spawn, or become otherwise Cthulhu-like, as they level up? Otherwise, it might make sense to just include the Dark Adept line from the undead faction, at least for campaign purposes (if that's what this is for). Based on a conversation I had w...

Re: Lovecraft's Deep Ones (New here)
with prodigious bulging eyes that never close You can clearly see its eyes closing in the animations. ;) You could change the description to match, but I wonder if keeping the eyes open in the animations would help make it feel more creepy (which is always a good thing when dealing with Lovecraft)....

Re: Wesnoth2, Wesnoth, Inc, and other things
Then, if we were to transition to 3D, what would the game look like? A Hex-Based X-Com, but in Wesnoth style? Civilization 5, but with a single unit representation instead of multiple? Probably something like the Age of Wonders series with a Wesnothian style to the units -- i.e. proportions, shadin...

Re: Wesnoth2, Wesnoth, Inc, and other things
One could use ramps or toon rendering to get specific color gradations like we have now, and once a unit is modeled and rigged the possibility of many unique as well as shared animations opens up if there is a standard Wesnoth rig. Keeping the style simple enough to emulate the current sprite look ...

Re: More sigils for Wesnoth!
I have to echo most of what Celtic_Minstrel just said. Many of these are too "busy" and just don't look very iconic. Additionally, many of the follow the same pattern (one thing, several of that thing, or many of that thing arranged in a circle), so more variety would be nice. Have you loo...

Re: More sigils for Wesnoth!
I'm not a fan of the saurian sigils. Sure, when we think about saurians we think about lizards (they're even named after lizards, after all), but I doubt they think of themselves that way any more than we think of ourselves as apes -- a technical truth, but hardly something that defines us or that w...

Re: [Mainline] Deep Dwarfs
As Vyncyn said, a purely dwarven faction would be difficult. I suspect this to be the reason why outlaws are a big part of the Knalgan Alliance. A purely dwarven faction would be heavily weighted to a particular set of strengths (tough, high defense on mountains, etc.) and weaknesses (slow, weak def...

Re: Wesnoth2 ruleset (or undoing Wesnoth)
A randomish move order will have far more potential to completely throw the game in a single round than the current RNG ever had. That's kind of the appeal. :) A battle is not an orderly, predictable thing, and nobody really has control. It's not only wrong moves that can turn the tide, but dumb lu...

Re: Wesnoth2 ruleset (or undoing Wesnoth)
I think the best way to avoid activation advantage might be an initiative system like in many (e.g.) JRPGs. At the start of the turn, every unit gets shuffled or rolls for initiative, possibly with bonuses for some units or situations (e.g. chaotic units at night), so it might be something like P1 s...

Re: Wesnoth2, Wesnoth, Inc, and other things
As an artist, I think NC seems even worse than a closed license. If you're planning on letting other devs make Wesnoth spin-offs with some kind of royalty payment using Wesnoth2 assets, then that doesn't require a CC license since you'd be setting up an explicit agreement. NC sits in a weird middle ...

Re: time waster top down rpg?
I've sunken a lot of time into Tales of Maj'Eyal and really enjoyed it. It's loosely a Rogue-like, but a bit more casual than most -- I haven't run into any traps that will permanently reduce my stats or anything like that, and you'll rarely die instantly without at least having an idea that you're ...

Re: [POLL] What mainline campaign you like most?
I voted for UtBS mostly because of Kaleh's character and how he relates to the plot. I really felt his determination to save the last of his dying people as more and more of them are massacred by monsters, enemies, and natural(ish) disasters. The campaign is fairly difficult and this lines up with t...

Re: My Terrain (Mine!)
Most of the throne variations look very dark compared to the rest of the castle, and the shading look much harsher. They also don't really merge with the tile they're sitting on, so overall they don't look like they're a part of the same image. They rather look like they were pasted in. I think the ...

Re: Let's Rewrite Descriptions!
Year, johndh, sabre can't have that type of hilt. That type of hilt (as in icon) needed to put fingers deep into the cup, totally another way to hold a weapon compared a way you hold a sword. Oh, people who had no fense practice have no idea about this. But just look at differences between sport ra...
