I had an error message pop up near the end of the scenario, repeated several times – "[random_placement] failed to place items." This didn't break the game or seem to cause any problems going forward. I'm guessing it was because the game was trying to put down more of the enemy guard unit...

Normally, the non-password protected games are open to join by anyone.
Some pseudo-ranked games usually have password protection enable but you may observe those as a spectator.
You can also host your own game with your preferred settings and someone may join as well.

I recently released a map-pack addon on the 1.17.x servers with around 55 scenarios. Can be played with any era. If any of them show good promise and value, might be tempted to offer those up for core inclusion (no clue how that will turn out though)

Replays can be loaded by drag-and-drop the file into your saves folder and loading it as a save file from the Battle for Wesnoth client.My windows media player isn't letting me see the replays, not sure if there is a program that consistently works for that sort of thing...
