When I first started playing, i reloaded A LOT! 
It does help you at first, but start shying away from that soon, because you need to think, "What if this random thing happened and all heck broke loose?"

I've noticed that too! In 1.6, the loading would even stall for me (freezing and quitting the game).
Now I don't even SEE the loading screen! The longest I have seen is about 2-3 seconds!
I love 1.8.
