Re: Manual redraft
I see the manual still hasn't been updated, which is a shame because Simons' redraft is so much better. What's the status of this project?

Re: Manual redraft
I notice the Home page still links to the old manual. What's the status of Simon's latest (29-Jun-09) draft? It's vastly better and I'm surprised it hasn't replaced the older one yet.

247: My suggestion would be: " The Battle for Wesnoth was primarily designed to play campaigns, a series of connected scenarios. Click the Campaign button to start a new campaign and you will be presented with a list of the campaigns currently available on your computer I believe this should r...

Re: Manual redraft
It's grossly abnormal to have case-sensitive hotkeys. The real problem, then, is that this is a poor choice for a hotkey. We aren't in a position to change that, though. I haven't paid enough attention to established conventions for hotkeys and their notation, apparently. I never gave any thought t...

Re: Manual redraft
BTW, command mode is ostensibly ":", but AFAICS it's actually accessed with "Shift-;" - or is that just a quirk of my machine? Well, first, there's no minus sign or hyphen involved in the keying sequence. Second, I expect everyone knows that one produces a colon on a QWERTY keyb...

Re: Manual redraft
Assembling the files as you suggested produced a perfect manual for me. I think strategy should be addressed solely in one, separate guide. It should be ref'd in the game manual, though. Would the separate MP guide you have in mind be more extensive than what's here now, or the same content? As it i...

2 new minor points: 1.2.3: The envelope icon is hard to spot in the Main Window graphic, so I suggest adding (new text in italics): "...clicking on the envelope icon (in the lower-right corner of the main window) opens a dialog box..." 1.3.1, last sentence: New players may get bogged down ...

Re: Manual redraft
Because of upkeep, if you have too many units you'll still get more gold from ending the scenario early than from milking XP. True -- I overlooked upkeep. Even so, I find typically that, by the time I'm approaching the end of a scenario, I've captured most villages and attrition of my non-loyals ha...

Re: Manual redraft
Whether or not you get a "bonus" for completing a scenario early - the bonus being equal to total village gold possible on the map times number of turns left - is set by the scenario writer. Most "defeat enemy leader" scenarios have bonus set to yes, so you have an incentive to ...

Re: Manual redraft
WRT draft 3: This is looking really good. The added graphics are a terrific improvement (especially for the Resistances section), and the new Terrains and Fog/Shroud sections are also beneficial. I don't see anything wrong with the images, or missing ones. What "niggles" are you referring ...

Re: Manual redraft
That worked -- thanks. You might want to insert placeholder text for images that aren't included yet, to help ensure the ones that are present in the current manual don't get omitted. Comparing your versions of the Attack and Damage Calculations windows with mine (which were taken from 1.6), I see n...

Are the graphics supposed to be showing up in the manual? They don't for me (Firefox 3.0.8, OSX 10.5.6), although they're in the zip folder.

Re: Proposed additions to Manual
Simons Mith has made available for download a draft of a new manual that incorporates the proposals in this thread, plus many other changes, at http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=25047&p=352020#p352020 . I request, therefore, that further suggestions be made WRT to the new dra...

Re: Manual redraft
Are we using British or American spelling? I saw "favour" in one spot, but haven't checked for consistency. (The original manual uses American.) WRT one of your requests for opinions: I agree about Sections 1.3.6, etc. 3.1 could be replaced entirely by a sentence or two containing a link t...

Re: Proposed additions to Manual
Suggestion for Section 1.3.5: Your army consists of units that you have recruited or recalled. Each unit is identified by its race, level and class (it is a good strategy to have an army containing units of a variety of classes). More details on race, level and class are available in the in-game he...
