Re: Captain Swings portrait work ... Undead
Thinking about it, it could make an excellent campaign portrait, if you're willing to work on it. There's a good-guy Wraith in Northern Rebirth, Abhai, who probably wouldn't work well with the generic Wraith portrait when it's done. This sadder, more emotive portrait could fit him perfectly - if yo...

Re: Captain Swings portrait work ... Undead
Nope, they're not bony, they're metal. Everything in the ghost line, except the L1 ghost, are like "Ringwraiths", and have no visible (although quite possibly tangible) body parts inside their clothing/armor. There are no bones. These guys are dressed kinda like the witch king, from the l...

Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves
Also, your critique not only is either a repetition of what she said already, you have posted suggestions that blatantly ignore the explanation that TSI has been giving on why certain parts of the portrait are the way that they are. If you cannot come up with original comments, please do not post w...

Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves
I'll try for some slightly chubbier wrinkles. but as I've said before, I don't intend that the dwarvish body structure is fat - they are the shape they are because of their bones and organs, not because they have excess fat. How exactly do you suggest making the beard follow the body shape more? I'...

Re: Captain Swings portrait work ... Undead
I'm open to either idea, personally. i was also considering making the hand blades into Freddie Kreuger-style attachments.. But alternatively, this could just cover both the shadow and the nightgaunt. Please not Freddy claws! The Wraith is already a bit !RoCkErZ 4 EVA! please don't make me feel lik...

Re: Return of the fencer, part deux
Your sugestion isn't any better or worse than mine (except for the neck, for which you completely ignored the rotation of the head), just a bit different angle and proportions. I'm not really going to get into this here, but I do see one area at least where Kitty's is an improvement, that's the bro...

Re: Captain Swings portrait work ... Undead
Okay, sadly nothing new on the inking -frustration may be setting in with both my lack of skill and lack of equipment. Sketches though I can do. Here are three more somewhere between the posing stage and the okay let's ink this stage. a. Ghoul or something else disgusting. necro.png b. Boneshooter -...

Re: Captain Swings portrait work ... Undead
I'd maybe rotate him forward a little bit, though - at present, the backwards lean coupled with the position of his hands gives me a bit of a sense of ROCK ON! =P But the rotation should fix that. The only other thing I'd query is the big bone on his sword pommel - it just doesn't fit with the orna...

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
A quick set of answers: Javelineer: - he owes his greyish face to the light angle I choose: intense sunlight straight up, coming slightly on his back. His face is shaded by the helm, but I'm having, hard time finding a decent skin tone judging by your reactions :hmm: - thanks to you Mr Mith for you...

Re: Captain Swings portrait work ... Undead
So yeah I'm not dead yet. Anyway, cold got better and I had to do real paid work for a while. Haven't forgotten about Wesnoth though. I'm starting to paint up the wraith and figured I will throw the face out for any thoughts and advice. Its only got it's internal shading - I suspect I'll end up ligh...

Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves
i'm not really convinced by the shading of his breast armour (is there a special term for that part?). the reflection makes it look asymmetrically. and i think his lower regions could generally be a tad darker. Nice chainmail indeed - I do like his belly now, but I got some worries about the breast...

Re: Captain Swings portrait work ... Undead
Here's the Draug with a fixed left Spaulder and some inking on the armor. I am not really happy with the inking, and it' not really done -- external shadow and specular lighting hasn't even been attempted. DraugDink.png as to the Wraith - Maybe I'll do the flutes a lot smaller, that should get rid o...

Alrighty,
First - another Draug fix is on the way, along with some actual painting on him.
Second, here's the ghost design with floppier hood and better armor.

Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves
I've been attempting simply to keep the stylistic elements the same across the different units, so they're all recognisably from the same culture. I've found the easiest way to do that is to keep the pauldrons and arm-armour in the same style throughout - it works for me to have them remain simple ...

Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves
I entirely disagree - they're inspired by a real-life helmet, the only difference being that they don't go all the way down the face. It doesn't take much to deflect a sword-stroke... Other than the amusing issue of Wesnoth's armor getting more and more historically advanced as time goes on/levels ...
