Re: Campaign Gold Carryover: Unit Taxes and Selling

Some scenarios are also balanced towards flexing a particular section of your recruit list *cough*mermen*un-cough*. It would be pretty frustrating to carry a lvl 3 merpriest around for the last 10 scenarios of the Heir campaign... You could just tax the units actually recalled for a scenario, instea...

Re: Trait Idea: Perceptive

A good thought though. Maybe perceptive units could also reveal nightstalking type abilities in action? A more specialized ability is definitely more of a unit specific type thing.

Re: Trait Idea: Perceptive

I didn't think that sounded right. I'm gonna take that "my bad" back on this one. Anyway. Some sort of bonus to hit perhaps? Some unit specific skills modify chance to hit already but don't just add % (I'm sure because they don't want them to but still...) And I suppose resistance is in the same nei...

Re: Campaign Gold Carryover: Unit Taxes and Selling

True. I'll see if i can manage it. The thing I don't like is if you cap the players power at some point, even if they can favor one type of power over another, there doesn't seem to be enough ways to un-cap it. Loyal units and changing the math around mid-campaign (or having it shift slowly over the...

A dark misty space with some sinister shadow beckoning from within?

Where is the faction posted?

Re: Campaign Gold Carryover: Unit Taxes and Selling

I believe that the fine tuning wouldn't be the main difficulty. The real problem as has been pointed out by Max2008 and Valensk is the growth of your army would be restricted by your desire to carryover gold. This is also what would allow a simpler projection of how powerful a players army could act...

Re: Changes to the gold carryover system in the campaigns

That's true but isn't it a little sad that scenarios had to cater specifically to gold-coasting through a campaign? That scenario could've been geared toward something more exciting or challenging than preempting a lvl 1 rush in the next mission. P.S. I posted a refined version of the suggested Carr...

Re: Brainstorm over a unit concept

What about the Figure at the Crossroads? The classic temptation to damn oneself for temporary gain. . . While we dread such a price this myth is associated only with figures we envy.

Re: Trait Idea: Perceptive

That's interesting. I didn't find it worked like that for me (in TRoW). But what if the trait added 5% or so to chance to hit as well as the sight increase (if that's even possible). I mean strong/resilient/intelligent/healthy/dextrous traits have no innate penalties except for the fact that they co...

Re: Campaign Gold Carryover: Unit Taxes and Selling

If they are already considering knocking gold carryover down to 40% or even less what exactly are you losing? Besides the numbers themselves could be easily adjusted. I understand that nobody likes taxes where there were none before, but while the developers are considering alternatives they should ...

Campaign Gold Carryover: Unit Taxes and Selling

I already posted most of this in the discussion on rebalancing the carryover system but I thought I might as well throw it out here as well. Firstly, the Unit Tax/Tithe suggestion. All numbers used are examples only, not properly evaluated and balanced amounts. Wait... even more firstly: I know the ...

Re: Changes to the gold carryover system in the campaigns

Could be it's just not how anyone would want to play Wesnoth. It's not the kind of mechanic that would make me jump up and play the first time I saw it, but the new system :annoyed:, I don't like at all. And it also isn't the kind of thing that I think would piss me off as long as it was balanced. . .

Re: Changes to the gold carryover system in the campaigns

If you could only sell your troops on a castle tile you wouldn't have to tax them. They'd cost you 20 gold to bring out and that would be the reduction. However that seems like a lot of work if the unit costs had to be retooled to fit that system. A little math might make things nicer. What if the a...
