Re: A question about thief-fencer balance
One big advantage would be more reliable damage. With more strikes it's more likely that one hits. You also don't need to expose a fencer to get his full damage-potential, he's as good in your line as he is behind enemy lines (for backstab you always have to expose one unit). The extra MP makes the ...

Re: Too many campaingns have you fighting orcs/undead.
I think we shouldn't be looking at this only from a story perspective. One important factor to me is terrain defense, which human players tend to use a lot better than the AI. Elves and Dwarves are terrain specialists - an aggressive AI will put them out in the open where they are easily shredded, a...

Re: Elves
Understandable strategy for elves:
Get one shaman per 4 units you recruit. Use the shamans to slow opponents, then kill with the others. Repeat. A winner is you.
(that's the very short version that's lacking a lot of detail, but you get what you ask for)

Re: How many healers?
Also depends on the healers. Shamans for example can be *very* useful in certain situations for their "slow" and survival in forest. Lvl 3 elf healers are sometimes big edge with their abillity to fly. Counting basic shamans as healers, yes, you will want a lot of them, but you'll want to...

Re: Why aren't stupid Knalgans still strengthened ?!
Even if it's killed on the return attack, an ulf is pretty good at paying its keep, unless you can't shield it at all. Generally, the ulf will: take out a specialist enemy unit (adept, orcish assassin, mage), ranging in price from 16-20 gold. If it's shielded somewhat decently, your opponent will al...

Re: Why aren't stupid Knalgans still strengthened ?!
Today I saw why some people don't like Knalgans. 2vs2, my partner uses a gryphon to grab an opponent's village. There are 3 elvish archers close to that village, they were all visible beforehand, and they could ZoC and attack the gryphon with pretty good defense to themselves. My partner exclaimed t...

Re: Why aren't stupid Knalgans still strengthened ?!
No matter what happens when a Thunderer is involved against a medium-to-high defense unit (Drakes and cavalry are special because their defense is so low), someone will be cursing the RNG because of the results: whether it's the attacker or the defender. Which is why you should focus on poachers (a...

Re: Why aren't stupid Knalgans still strengthened ?!
Quick look at factions other than undead: Drakes - inherent low defense makes them a great target for thunderers (due to bad pierce resistance of drakes a thunderer can get something like 25 damage in one blow. Poachers are nice too, as are guardsmen. Drake player reacts and recruits lots of saurian...

Re: Recall Questions
If you want to play with higher-level units, try using Age of Heroes, it gives you the default factions with the option to recruit level 2 units. There are also some other multiplayer eras you can get from the add-on server. You can change eras for a scenario at the bottom left, when configuring the...

Re: Why aren't stupid Knalgans still strengthened ?!
- They have steadfast units, backstabbers and berserkers (and the possibility to realistically get skirmishers) - Gryphon is a great hovering threat, and a hard hitter. Plus, it can see far enough to not go into the reach of too many ranged units. And knowing where those mages are, your ulf can cut ...

Re: "Ready" Button For Pre-game Screen
Locked! Because I can, and I don't need a reason. But joking aside - I like the first suggestion. I've often seen hosts starting the game as soon as a name shows up, and the players, who wanted to pick a faction/unit, leave as a consequence. Then again, there's a lot of wordless leaving and impolite...

Re: Orc Archer Spam o.0
Think of a map like this (simplified): Your Keep | | Your Territory | | xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx| | Fighting Zone | | --------------------| xxx marks the safety line: most of your villages are behind this, you have defensible terrain terrain there, this is the point you fall back to. This line shouldn't...

Deputy leaders in multiplayer
What I've been thinking of is the option to play MP scenarios with a deputy leader. I think it would add interesting strategy options to make the first recruit a deputy leader (little silver crown, canrecruit=yes). A side would only be beaten when both leader and deputy are dead. The reason for this...

Re: Favorite campaign title?
Other would mean one of these, then: An Orcish Incursion The Hammer of Thursagan The Sceptre of Fire Descent into Darkness Son of the Black Eye Delfador's Memoirs (only mainline in the development release atm) From these, I like both THoT and DiD as titles. (I think for a poll it's a bit arbitrary t...

Re: How many healers?
A lot depends on the campaign. Some don't have healers available, some have 4 types (HttT: Shaman (and later forms), White Mage, Mermaid Priestess and Paladin). So a lot depends on what healers you can get. Then there's the question how many units you have, and how long the campaign is: in An Orcish...
