Re: Stern's Art: Speckles the Toad
Summers done, and Stern has returned! My next project is to animate Speckles the Toad. To my current understanding, Wesnoth lacks a highly animated amphibian for UMC. Speckles' job is to fill that role. Here is the current state of his base frame. Let me know what you think of structure, shading, co...

Re: The Great Grunt Run Animation Project
I decided to hold off animating the cape until I fix some other issues. The first thing to do is convert the grunt to isometric perspective. This was done be animating him sprinting across two hexes and then realining all of the frames. Let me know if the feet look better as opposed to my previous v...

Re: Grunt Animation WIP for Open Animation Commission
Thank you very much Jetrel for the in depth reply! I will do what I can to finish the grunt. In the meantime, there have been some changes in my life that I need to attend to. Because of this, I will be on a month long hiatus. ***UPDATE*** I am back from my month long hiatus. There have been some dr...

Re: Grunt Animation WIP for Open Animation Commission
Finished his helm ribbons. Now for his cape! grunt-runS8-8.gif [Edit] The cape is coming along alright. Let me know how the kinematics look. Once I nail down the cape, I will move forward to the final coloring process. grunt-runS8-10.gif [Edit] Beginning coloring process. So far, I got flat colors f...

Re: Grunt Animation WIP for Open Animation Commission
I added a bit more spring and compression to the Grunt's torso. Let me know how it looks in relation to his legs as I begin development on the helm's ribbons.

Re: Grunt Animation WIP for Open Animation Commission
Here is the Grunt with completed hip and complimentary shoulder roll with a running bob. After addressing the Grunt's left arm, the blocking seems to be shaping up quite nicely.

Re: Grunt Animation WIP for Open Animation Commission
My schedule has been a bit chaotic lately, but I am determined to see the Grunt running in all of his Orcish splendour! Currently I have been working on the bouncing/swiveling motion of his hips. The grunt's hips and pelvis are protected by three metal plates which I have colored yellow and cyan. Th...

Re: Grunt Animation WIP for Open Animation Commission
I developed a couple variations of the Grunt's arm swing. Which animation more closely resembles an orc lumbering along wielding a giant blade? I am attempting to show the heft or weight of the orcish blade by working on how the Grunt swings his sword as he gallops along. Heavy blade grunt-runS9.gif...

Re: Grunt Animation WIP for Open Animation Commission
Yeah, I agree that the Grunt's sword waves around way too much. I will see what I can do to bring it more in line with Jetrel's Elvish Fighter run animation. I think that a real life reference would be pretty handy for developing not only this unit's animation, but for other units as well.

Re: Grunt Animation WIP for Open Animation Commission
Heres the Grunt with a sword. I added an extra "pull back frame" for the legs and made his arm movements less exaggerated. I also added some more movement to the helmet and pauldrons. I think he will be needing a cape soon.

Re: Grunt Animation WIP for Open Animation Commission
I have decided to wait on blocking out the Grunt's cape, sword, and helmet ribbons until I have sorted out the run cycle. Here is my latest attempt after studying some run cycle frames. I think that this animation still needs some tweaking, but is a definite improvement over the last one.

Re: Stern's Art: From Walk to Run Cycles
Yeah, I made the mistake of drawing the Ghast too small, but I did learn something interesting from the experience. Blocking on a smaller figure allows you to experiment with fewer pixels to move around. Animating on a smaller smaller figure first could result in gains of productivity and time savin...

Re: Stern's Art: From Walk to Run Cycles
