Re: Wesnoth as a board game

Hello everyone! I'm glad that you spawned a lot of ideas in the last few days, but I'm afraid that my intentions were much more modest than you expect. Although I really like some of your ideas (using small magnets etc...), I don't think I will be able to put them into practice. My plans are to crea...

Re: Wesnoth as a board game

Wow, great site, Gio! Thanks for the tip. Edit: the basic set of hexes is now finished. The hexes are 4 cm (1.6 in) in diameter, which means each side of a hex measures 2cm. I tried to create a small map out of them. I also bought some figures in a local game shop. The only thing remaining is create...

Re: Wesnoth as a board game

Just a quick bump to let anyone interrested know that I'm doing progress. I made three factions - Rebels, Loyalists and Undead - each with 6 units from the original game. The reduced number of units for each faction will also mean that it will be much more difficult to balance the factions against e...

Re: Wesnoth as a board game

Update - I am currently working on units for the board game. But they need to be balanced - preferably by changing their cost in gold. This will be difficult because they have to be modified to suit the needs of the board game - less HPs, less damage, etc... I tried to figure some formula myself but...

Re: Wesnoth as a board game

Turuk (And others as well), you are free to continue if you have any ideas that could move the project further. This is not Elricz's or my project. It should be a collective effort. All you need should already be here on the boards. If it's not, write me an email or PM. P.S.: Don't take it personall...

Re: Wesnoth as a board game

Hey guys! The idea is far from being dead (at least if you asked me). It's just that the real life things like studies etc. sometimes get a higher priority. The biggest problem with the board game as I see it now (from the top of my head) is what units the players will be allowed to recruit without ...

Re: Wesnoth as a board game

Another twocent advice... browse the downloadable Wesnoth source code [...] [...] Take a look to the "FREQUENTLY PROPOSED IDEAS" paragraph here: http://wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1158 And also think about this: what you develop will be useful to people in this thread and they'll want to use ...

Re: Wesnoth as a board game

I guess we will not be having ranged attacks in WBG? Well, if you mean something like melee vs. ranged (as in original Wesnoth), I'd like to have something like that in WBG. But if you mean your idea of ranged attacks traversing more than one tile, I'd be against it because it would change the tact...

Re: Wesnoth as a board game

And the final rules differing is not much of a problem, If the ready to use application is anything like what I am planning, playtesters will at first have unit cards on the table, delete units when they die, and have to process the numbers the dice give them themselves. Oh! I didn't think about th...

Re: Wesnoth as a board game

I read the rules pdf 0.1 and I offer to translate it to my language, italian. Wow! Thanks for your help, man! As soon as we have a real draft (0.1 rules can't even be considered a draft), you can translate it. The sources will be available from the web, in accordance with the GPL license, so it sho...

Re: Wesnoth as a board game

I may just be very clumsy, but I can't seem to find a complete set of rules. Does a set exist? Hi! Thanks for your interest in the board game! Regarding the rules - they are far from complete, although the most fundamental ideas probably won't change. If you must see it, here's a TeX typeset versio...

Re: Wesnoth as a board game

As we will need to balance the units if we want to change some game mechanisms to be more suitable for a board game, I searched the web for articles on game balancing techniques and I found this one particularly interresting: http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articl ... le1765.asp

Re: Wesnoth as a board game

Actually, that is not a bad idea, you can tweak the units and the maps to match the board game stats, so you can at least get a feeling of the balance and the easiness of movement. I don't know if you can change the way that attacks are resolved using WML, though. Of course, there is no easy way to...
