Lord of the Rings is low fantasy because magic is rare and not generally available to the common people.

Well that's why I want to avoid having too much complexity on the empire/economy side of things. I want to let Wesnoth's beautiful tactical combat system shine while adding some new complexity.

Personally I don't think that the Khalifate faction fits in with the rest of Wesnoth. They just don't seem high fantasy enough to me. Plus their resistances are weird. I have no issues about religious stuff or anything. They just don't seem like default material. OTOH I think it would be cool to add...

Yes yes I know about all those fantasy stories and many more. But to take a story concept and give it your own twist is not breaking any copyright laws. Um... I really like your era but you really need to fix the RIPLIB issues. Many units decrease the number of strikes they have when they level up which is not a good idea.
