Re: Wesnoth Theme - Emotion music

so i had a think about why those two stand out as examples. this is all just my opinion, of course :P Celes' theme has a personal quality to it unlike a lot of the FF music. The start of it, instead of setting out what the rest of the piece is going to be like, builds tension before it breaks you in...

Re: Wesnoth Theme - Emotion music

What I'm about to say is most likely going to make no sense. First, I LIKE the piece. I think it flows TOO well. It has too much drive- the harp never lets up for a breath, it just keeps flowing, and flowing. It has a romanticism to it that means it can't work in the "past" or "legend...

Re: Over the Northern Mountains (Cold :P)

well, aside from the fact that my computer is refusing to play .oggs on any player, i can't get that damn violin tune out of my head. i've randomly started whistling it at least 3 times this week- doesn't help that i'm in ireland, of course :P it oozes character, more than anything you've posted her...

Re: New stuff, new methods, new music (6/3)

still paying attention and working on it- toying with a new distortion device to brass up the horn, fleshing out the percussion a bit more, messing with some more powerful brass, de-muddying, and trying not to fall into another rut :P Sapient- thanks, and that part will be back, but it's not easy to...

Re: So how does this compare to FE?

One thing I noticed- if you played Fire Emblem a lot before Wesnoth, it takes time to adjust... losing units in Wesnoth is rarely critical, and sometimes necessary.

Re: New stuff, new methods, new music (6/3)

Thanks- I've worked on it a bit more, and it's coming a lot more naturally than the Drake fiasco. I think I figured out the problems with it, despite being gently and not-so-gently told them and barely listening before- richness of texture is all well and good, but it loses its impact if all you hav...

i've never been able to effectively use percussion/drums. i don't know why, my most irritating habit is tapping out rhythms on anything, everywhere, and in exactly the wrong situation :D but i'm probably going to have to find some "for dummies" tutorial on it to make it not suck and be hor...

Layman's opinion: sounds awesome. My only wish would be that the great part at 3:10-3:35 would have a bit more...punch (like the part at 4:30-4:40 does), at least when the theme repeats the second time (starting from 3:23). I'm not sure if I'm referring to simply the loudness of that section or the...

update in first post, link at the bottom of it

awaiting any input. i need some now, because i'm a humongous amateur at this stuff, and become desensitized to things i work on too long- i'm hitting "the wall" over and over, in other words, and i need fresh advice

cold magic gives drakes a big weakness- taking it out would mean the drake mirror and drake vs undead matchups would have to be messed around with. but the main change would be the effectiveness of the dark adept- cold magic is neutral against most enemies, where arcane isn't. it would nerf undead v...

yeah, um. the thing about Reason is it lends itself far better to the half-arsed trance on the newgrounds portal than anything orchestral- it only works in midi, so you can't just record the harp separately then play back as an audio file alongside the rest. the *only* way to do it is to export the ...

it did, thanks. :) i haven't abandoned it, but i've had to cut the harp. there is no way my computer can process it along with 25-odd other sample sets, it's a dear little thing and it does what it can, but sometimes it's all too much, g'bless. but the piece has undergone a whole lot of plastic surg...
