jelle wrote:if you lose one of your best units, what do you do? continue whit your defastated army or reload the previous turn?
Continue, usually. If it's a really bad loss I might restart the scenario. Restarting turns in-scenario feels like cheating to me, so I don't do it.

Re: Luck in Wesnoth: Rationale

My $.02: without luck, Wesnoth would be boring to me. It'd just be crunch the numbers and make mathematical moves, without needing to have multiple contigency plans for dealing with different possible outcomes of the battles.

Re: I can't believe it's not save spam

Since save spam is looked down apon in this game I would like to know where you regulers draw the line between save spam and giving it one more try. E.G You have been playing an incredibly lucky game and your units are near their hero and can kill it next turn but a scout comes out of the fog and g...

There's no reason to assassinate anything unless you're really short on gold. It's a good scenario to level up a lot of troops while running the time out.

Re: Stuck on HttT The valley of death

grand knights are very useful on this level if you can get them to the holy water. they will do about 72-2 to lichs in full daylight with the holy water. On HttT, I'd suggest going with paladins instead of grand knights up to this level, but anyone who levels here or later should become a grand kni...

Re: Why do people quit playing?

Training There are too many strategic choices that are not explained to the beginning player...Frankly it will take alot of determination for a casual player to go beyond a passing interest in this game. It doesn't help that your average player is getting more shall we say casual and is expecting i...

Re: Why do people quit playing?

I'm not arguing for removing it (though I personally don't use in-scenario saves, feels too much like cheating), just commenting that comig from a turn-based gaming background I found it odd. Well, I must say that the only one that get's hipotetically damaged by the action is the same person that s...

Re: Why do people quit playing?

it basically mandates a huge amount of micro-management, and encourages plenty of "save and reload". Just an aside: I found it shocking that turn-by-turn saves are kept, it sort of defeats the purpose of this kind of strategy game to allow in-scenario save/restore. But then I'm used to the nethack ...

Re: Why do people quit playing?

Eyerouge I would have liked to post in this thread but I haven't had the time. Basically I believe that Wesnoth is a very special game that really will only interest a narrow segment of the gaming public... a reality that we should accept and embrace. I agree with this to a degree, but I wouldn't g...

Re: Why do people quit playing?

Wesnoth has GREAT replay value is doing a LOT to improve the replay value every release... 2) I can't tell who the truly great players are. For me playing the best of the best and losing is the only real replay value Wesnoth has once I mastered the AI. This is odd, it seems to me like you say that ...

Re: Why do people quit playing?

I kind of agree - better random maps (and even campaigns) would probably add greatly to the replay value for those who do not like (or have time for) MP. I don't follow: Wesnoth supports random maps, doesn't it? Not that I ever used the function, but from what I've seen it's there. There are also p...

Re: Why do people quit playing?

In a discussion it was suggested that the average Wesnoth player has a short Wesnothian life, that most people are new to the game and leave it in a not to distant future, that there are not that many veterans around. It lacks huge replay value, because there are only a dozen or so well-developed c...

Re: Scenario Review: (HTTT) Home of the North Elves

I'm following the advice to rank 10=hardest scenario in the campaign (Seige of Elsenfar), 1 = easiest (Elves Besieged) (1) What difficulty levels have you played the scenario on? Medium, Wesnoth version 1.4 (2) How difficult did you find the scenario? (1-10) [1] 6, again it's much easier once you've...
