I realise that, but the ancient lich by itself will hardly be enough to counter the fact that many on the 'evil' side can't go past level 2, which (among other things) is what I'm trying to solve.

That would be another option to help things, creating custom level 3 units for the 'evil' side, but it would be a pain. Unless there are already some level 3 units that have been balanced already somewhere...

Balancing the teams

Here's a list of how I think I'd make the teams. It's only slightly different from Fiach Dubh's. 'Good' side: Melee warrior - Spearman, Dwarvish Fighter, Elvish Fighter, Heavy Infantry Ranged fighter - Bowman, Elvish Archer, Dwarvish Thunderer Magic-user - Mage, Elvish Shaman Other - Fencer, Sergean...

Played it last night. It was great. Really loved Torlic. Too bad he died. I lost my main character to that splitting mage, but Ruttle survived to the end. Only three of the five made it through (including me), but what kind of rpg would it be without risk?

If I am losing badly I will usually concede, but I prefer it if I am challenged to surrender, rather than simply decide to stop myself. It kinda feels like I'm just wimping out if I decide to lose, but if my opponent says "Surrender and I may spare your life" it feels a lot more like part ...

Thoughts on creeps that the players encounter: While the two paths that the teams follow start out separate, after awhile they'll merge onto the same area. So while early on the two sides might fight opposite enemies, (evil fights pesants at first, while good fights goblins) most of the enemies will...

I would rather not give each team a level2 unit to start with, but the categories seem good. I might see if I can come up with a greater choice of units for the 'other' category. It will all need testing though.

I should have explained earlier, I was thinking it would be two teams of three players/units each. Thinking some more, what might be good is a semi random preset unit selection, where each team has a melee fighter (human spearman, elf fighter, dwarf fighter) a ranged fighter (elf archer, human bowma...

That would be great, since I've never used WML before. I'm fairly quick at picking up programming, so it shouldn't be too bad though. I'm thinking I might set it in the remains of a dwaven city that is high in the mountains, rather than underground. That way I can have forested areas, as well as a d...

Kinda, but death is permament, and upgrades are harder to get.

MP Scenario Idea

This is just an idea for a kind of scenario that I would like to play. A 'party' quest scenario, like Northern RPG, but with two teams in competition. The aim is to retrieve a powerful item and return it to your team's 'home'. The teams could choose to seek out and fight the other at any time, but s...
