Re: Forum Upgrade

While we're piling on, add my displeasure about removing the search function. I had the "search for unread posts" bookmarked in my browser, but now I get a message saying I don't have permission.

TAR = Tape ARchive Also known as tarballs. They usually are in a file like: filename.tar.gz or filename.bz2 Basically, it's a way of bundling a bunch of files of folders together. Sort of like ZIP. If you've never heard of it before, I'm guessing that you're either a Windows user who clicked on the ...

As an example, my name, Clonkinator. In the lobby I also am named Clonkinator. However, since that is quite a long name I'm often just called Clonk or Clonki. How would that be handled? The lobby already supports tab completion (at least the Linux version does, anyway) Just start typing that long n...

I think two of the biggest obstacles user eras face are that they don't come with the game (therefore you can only play with people who have downloaded them... since the last time they changed version), and they have enough balance problems *now* that some people will prefer to avoid them and work ...

And just to make it a bit clearer, the forum you are reading from right now is built on PHPBB. PHPBB is free, and often comes with your web hosting package. If you ever do want to set up a forum using it, be very careful to read through the documentation and understand the permissions system. The de...

I'd be worried about how this would balance out with other factions in a multiplayer setting. On the other hand, it sounds like a great idea for campaigns.

If you're in a console,

Code: Select all

wesnoth
should start it up. That's assuming that /usr/local/ is in your path.

Depending upon your desktop environment, you can add custom menu entries. KDE does this best, but both GNOME and XFCE and almost any other WM or DE will have ways of doing this too.

PHP (and UNIX in general) starts counting from midnight on January 1, 1970 (GMT). The time system is based on counting the number of seconds from then. If PHP encounters an error with the time, it will return -1 (PHP 5 does this anyway - not sure about 4) instead of the severa billion seconds it sho...

The computer I bought for our church (Friends' Meeting actually) came with Vista on it. It seems ok if sluggish compared to the Kubuntu I put on the other 1/2 of the hard drive. It's perfectly usable. Still, we're mostly using the Kubuntu side. (though that might be because of the influence of mysel...

Are you using just plain Xinerama with the open source drivers, or are you using Nvidia or ATI proprietary video drivers? If you're using Nvidia's you can use TwinView which allows you to set "metamodes". It's really handy for fullscreen games like Wesnoth, Unreal Tournament, BZFlag, etc. ...

Have you checked out Make Human ? It's still under development, but very promising. Basically, makes the basic form of a human being, and allows you to easily tweak various parts of the body, and even come up with fairly intricate poses. Once you're done that, you export it and open it up in Blender...

You should be able to simply type in wesnoth in your terminal. Assuming it's in your path (it is in Kubuntu) /usr/local/ binaries always override /usr/ binaries, so you could even have two different versions of Wesnoth installed at the same time. (of course, that would wreak havoc with your cache an...
