Re: Multiplayer behind University firewall/proxy

Shouldn't you be studying while at a university? :P That's why they have the firewall because they don't want people doing multiplayer gaming on their network (which costs them money in bandwidth and such). Read the last post in that thread. They have ways of detecting whatever you do as long as you...

Re: If i install the new version of Wesnoth...

If you don't have a backup of the preferences file from your previous version then trying to replace it with a new one will keep Wesnoth from starting. Just use what you have and be happy that you have your saves available.

Re: Installation on 64-bit Win7?

I'm glad that my old idea of 'Portable Wesnoth' managed to gain some steam, awesome! I'll have to give it a try on that. :) Be advised though that Wesnoth does do a lot of read/writes to the drive so its a good idea to just copy it to the computer you'll be playing on and just play off of that (maki...

Re: Game Crash Report

This happened to me as well. Restarting the program immediately afterwards seems to have 'fixed' the issue. This may be due to missing/incomplete configuration setting files that Wesnoth needs to set on first run BEFORE accessing the addons server. Recommended to either have default configuration fi...

Re: SLOW Performance Issues: post here to Help

I'm using WinXP, and v1.7.6 (dev version) of BfW. Fairly beefy system at 3 Ghz CPU, 2+ GB of RAM, and a GeFX 7950 GT Nvidia Card. I've found that if you save or load manually (or the game autosaves) at any time, there's a slight pause before the next turn. It seems if you enable 'compressed saves' i...

Easy updating

Rather then requiring people to redownload the entire package of 250+ MB (as it is now), why not have a 'patch update' released with just the modified files and an installer that automates the update process? It seems a bit silly to not have an easy 'patch' for minor updates from revision to revisio...

Battle for Wesnoth - Portable Version

I'd love to be able to have a 'portable' version of BfW that I could just pop on my 4 GB flash drive and easily copy to other friend's computers to let them play it. But there's a problem. The 'installer' for BfW actually creates registry entries. I mean WTF!? Registry entries for a f-in open source...

Re: Firewall/Router configuration

Thanks for the replies. I'll respond to a few. Because 95% of players don't need to configure anything to join the multiplayer server or download add-ons. It's fairly uncommon to restrict outgoing ports for home users. If anyone doesn't restrict outgoing traffic, either they're using the built-in cr...

Firewall/Router configuration *Updated*

*UPDATE* Since I haven't gotten a clear answer to my query other then a variation of 'figure it out yourself', it seems I had to use my Firewall Logs to finally figure out just what ports were being used for everything, and so I did. I found that despite the developer reassurances, the fact that We...

understood

Thanks for the tips, guys. At least now I won't have to worry so much about breaking things due to very frequent updates (frequent at least, IMHO). I'm still (slowly) working on various things, including Portable Wesnoth, optimized of course, and my "allies don't help you at all" hack/patch/diversio...

situation resolved...

Just cause noone bothered to post any updates, thought I'd let people know, if they don't already know, that the trailer is back up on YouTube. Seems someone (or more then one person) was able to work their magic and get the trailer back up on YouTube. Good work everyone! Lets keep Wesnoth alive and...

agreed...

Ok, thanks for the responses. I'll download and archive the old versions of Wesnoth so that at least I can play some stuff that isn't compatible with newer versions. It just seems frustrating for some people to have the user-created content be broken every few months. Kinda discourages me, at least,...

from a fellow "newbie"

-Play on Easy. It really is Easy, but still somewhat challenging enough up until a certain point when you acquire 700+ gold (you get a large bonus from one scenario that has 60+ turns available to complete it in) and can thereafter build up a ridiculously large army if you want to. -In the first sce...
