Re: Forking of Wesnoth...
Good luck with your fork! Just one tiny thing to comment: Ideally games can also talk to regular wesnoth server for normal games, and fancier server only when requesting features not available in regular game, so for example ladder games wouldn't show up in regular server. Please don't. Try to keep...

Forking of Wesnoth...
Certain features have been requested which will never make it to core, or require tedious work arounds. One way to try to get these features would be to fork a version of Wesnoth into a separate game. Proposed changes in a Fork: Ability to have game ratings handled by server rather than separate lad...

Re: Wikipedia page on wesnoth
thats really a low blow imo :annoyed: I gave the guy I chatted with option to object to being quoted. IMO Wikipedia should be unbiased, show both pros and cons of every game, person, etc. Imagine for example only good stuff was put about Obama or George Bush or MS Word. Not giving a secret but what...

Wikipedia page on wesnoth
Provides some info on wesnoth. Have updated entries to reflect "core" values of developers in dev section, and how 1.6 is called "obsolete". (Fair that everyone gets both good and bad on encyclopedia page). If my info is *inaccurate*, feel free to correct, but if simply you don't...

Re: Splitting thread from luck for discussion of 1.8r1
Can you honestly and directly answer question: "is version 1.6 of Wesnoth obsolete?" Yes I can. No it isn't. You see, it's still listed as stable on the front page. Entering the multiplayer forum from version 1.6 you now see: "1.8 is released and is now available for download. 1.6 is...

"Your artistic opinion + your own fault for not checking facts = Wesnoth shouldn't get GSoC anymore." Lobby says "Your version is *obsolete*. Get new version" Can you honestly and directly answer question: "is version 1.6 of Wesnoth obsolete?" *** This is a forum for fe...

From chat on during recent game: Garison: sorry about my luck x: can't be helped nature of this game Garison: someone should program a balancing mechanism for the luck Garison: make it 5x more difficult to have 20% over then 10% over" x: they did, made patch for wesnoth, but will never ever mak...

Splitting thread from luck for discussion of 1.8r1
Then what, if anything, did replacing the sprites and animations require you to relearn? 2 (level 2) unit names were changed, everything else remained the same. "sprites and animations require you to relearn" (In my opinion) drake sprites are not any prettier than before but it takes time...

"screwed up the *balance*"
Luck, user interface, and art have nothing to do with balance, I never mentioned balance.

Re: Bad luck? Read this
"Ummm seriously? You have never had a game where you watch as the numbers favoring you never seem to be rolled...." I have had those, not fun at all either. The objection I think to Wesnoth is not that it can involve luck but that everyone is *forced* to play on luck every game, rather tha...

Re: Ten strategies adapted from Go
IMO the rules drastically vary depending on your faction and units. With drakes, offense is often much easier than defense. With orcs, villages are often more important than units (grunts are cheap). With dwarves it depends on what you have recruited, fighter and thunderer are more defensive, footpa...

Re: Hello! I wrote patch, which disable Random Number Generator
"I think such a mechanic makes the game boring" I have played many many hours of single player game c-evo, a civilization variant with *no* luck (and no cheating help to ai players, except more resources at impossible level). Enjoyed not having some of the games ruined by extreme good or b...

Re: Northeners
IMO orcs are fine as well, but they require different strategy than many other races. I have seen players who could do orcs but *not* do certain other races like drakes. Orcs tend to win by stealing villages more than killing units. Grunts are cheap with lots of hit points, one of best units to hold...

Re: Ageless era?
Devlings are very different, which can be fun, which imo is more important than balance. Remember several games were we laughed at the "red army ants".devlings are hard to get right.
