Re: Trait Idea: Perceptive
Given the issue of campaigns(Where the trait would be most helpful or most annoying), since scenarios can affect trait availability, I'd say make the trait available in the first few scenarios regardless of fog, make it available in the second and third quarter of the campaign in scenarios where fo...

Angry A: 15 seconds in what program and what hardware? One processor/core or several? It's still a very long time when used in web hosting environments, especially since web hosts have a set limit on amount of seconds a script is allowed to execute. I don't know what the standard is, but 15 sec sou...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
@eyerouge & Wintermute: I've optimized my score-estimation routines a bit. Now the time for calculating all scores from scratch is down to ~15 seconds (for over 4000 games). There are a couple of parameters that can be set which influence the resulting scores. One important question is, how quic...

@eyerouge: Thanks a lot for the files! I managed to import the data and am currently running some tests. There are some minor problems with importing the data. Could you tell me the total number of games there should be and also the maximum length of the name of a player? That would allow me to vali...

Re: wizzardz: NEW: Mr. Necromancer
Looks great.
One suggestion: Would it be possible to include the punk-version as an easter egg? That is, 19 out of 20 times you look at the unit description the normal picture appears, but on those 5% of times you get to see the Necropunk?

Re: Ladder Site Online...
k=40*exp(-N/100), where N is the total number of games played... The function starts at k=40 for a player's first game and then decreases smoothly to a value of ~15 after 100 games played and ~5 after 200 games. So after 200 games, the rating of the player will only change at 1/8th of the speed tha...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
I have not seen that, but it sounds interesting. I know nothing of the Rasch-Model, do you know of a good place to get some info? AFAIK, no one is dead-set on Elo, but it is just what has been easy to implement/does a pretty good job. The Rasch-Model is a psychological-mathematical model. It is the...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
Bellow is a suggested formula for a smoothly decreasing k-value in an ELO-type rating system (the rate at which scores change with each reported game is proportional to the k-value, i.e. big values=fast change, small values=slow change). Such a formula prevents an arbitrary division between provisio...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
@Wintermute and eyerouge: I followed your discussion on the rating formula. Here are some thoughts: - The ELO rating system is inherently probabilistic: that is, even for chess games it is assumed to some games are won due to good or bad luck. Such 'luck' influences can have many forms, explicitly r...

Re: The dark hordes
I might have a look at those things in the weekend. The 370 pages SVN-book is a bit more of an overhead than what I expected... So, what is the current plan for the further development of the campaign? I think agreeing on a development plan is the first step and makes working together much m...

@AI: I offered my help in maintaining this campaign before the forums crash but never got a reply. I would still be willing to contribute something every now and then, if I can and may.

Re: TripleA - Axis and Allies
The AI in TripleA is pretty weak (nothing like Wesnoth). Especially, it doesn't know how to handle naval battles at all and doesn't buy ships other than transports. I guess anyone with decent Java skills and some spare time could improve a lot there. Fortunately, there are usually enough people in t...

Re: "Pop-up battle"
The same kind of battle animations was used in Battle Isle and History Line 1914-18. In both cases I found them more time-wasting than anything else. I think such things are nice the first two times you see them and then quickly get boring. You could switch them off - fair enough - but why invest lo...

Re: Ability - Pillage
I think every unit in this game already has a pillage ability, that's why the poor townspeople pay gold in the first place. After all, would you rather defy a lich or lvl3 troll rather than a goblin if it asks for your money ?!??

Re: Stuck on HttT The valley of death
Leveling up is nice but you need Lancers / Knights with holy water for proper assassination in this level...
The mass of WCs in the east also make great sparring partners for your lvl1 units, even without holy water.
