I don't think asthetics are the answer. to answer the question originally posed, yes you can change the turn limit: look for the campaign scenario's cfg file, and open it with notepad. Near the top of the document you can find {TURNS 40 32 29} this refers to the turn limit for easy, normal and hard games respectively. Change it to anythin...

Well, you have a list of "creatures" that are unknown to us untill we see them, some of the creatures "evolve" to more powerful ones when they get battle experience

Yeah, seems pretty obvious. The entire "hidden wesnoth-dex" idea looks very pokemon-inspired.
