Always Translucent Bars
Maybe with a little alpha transparency even so the animations can be seen through them. A slight variation on Woodwizzle's idea: How about making them always translucent. That way you can still see at least the motion during the animations and there isn't any jolting change between animation and st...

holding the line
A good way to make sure that the front defending line holds is to calculate the max average damage the enemy could bring to bear on any one unit in the line. For example if the enemy’s best 2 units in range of a unit on the line which can be attached from 2 hexes do 8-4 and the defending unit...

‘backstab test’ is unintuitive for formation definition
As an added bonus, this approach means that the unit on the end of the line has no bonus, which is exactly what you'd expect. I beg to differ. I would expect a formation edge unit at the end of a line to: 1. have a more of a formation benefit than an isolated unit (next to no other formation friend...

I think it can be done without violating KISS, say the ability takes three turns to cast... so display a countdown over the units head. Damage already appears over units so changing the color making it a countdown wouldn't be hard. The FPI http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/FrequentlyProposedIdeas has rule...

loaded dice
I see your point about self correcting luck not being desirable. Once you got imbalanced it would be really frustrating not being able to believe the %chance to hit.

no dice
I think hunterkillr’s goal is to stop people from save-loading for luck. They can load because they made huge tactical blunders and want to try something different but they can’t load because they didn’t hit every time with their mage. I appreciate this type of play. However, I ...

25. It seems that the age of people around here is quite young good news for the prospects of the game future.

Experiments
Hmm I hadn’t differentiated between how the replays were corrupted before. I believe the corruption I am experiencing comes from at least two sources consisting of method two and other causes. Yesterday and today I ran some experiments to try and recreate the corruption errors I have been exp...

I agree
saveloading to correct your mistakes is indispensable if you haven't yet learned not to make any. To err is human; education and training cannot possibly hope to eliminate mistakes, only reduce them. I agree that this is a great idea, but not just for beginners. If you simple added a previous autos...

How did it go? Are you past The Isle of Anduin?
How did it go? Are you past The Isle of Anduin? I recently completed Heir to the Throne on medium without reloading within a scenario (plenty of reloads to the beginning of a scenario though) so I won’t claim to be an expert, but I do have replays of all three of the requested scenarios. In f...

Playing this scenario nets you a fair amount of early finish bonus at least 1 experienced mermaid (not too useful), and a few chaotic units which are good against the skeletons and good in caves. I think the other scenario probably is a better choice because of the xp you can get for your main army ...

I have found that saving a game and then loading it and continuing to play will corrupt the replay such that the replay will only remember things up until that first load. The only exception to this is when loading the autosave which doesn’t cause any problems. My observations have been for v...

My Ideas
IMHO a standard open file dialogue box that allows you to *open folders* is the best improvement that could be made to the save system. This would allow for users to create meaningful custom organization schemes. Why I personally would care I like to have LOTS of saved games. There was a time when I...
