First off, in my opinion, there really shouldn't be 80% defense anywhere in MP factions; it just makes for unbalanced situations because magic units become really useful, while factions with no magic struggle greatly...and there also shouldn't be any 45%, 55%, 65% etc. defense too, as I see no other...

Recently I noticed something about Gold Per Village values. If you recruit at least level 1 unit with 2 GPV settings, shouldn't you get 2 gold for every village you have each turn?
