I would suggest to use normal victory conditions on "Alliance with humans", as the player always has the alternative to hit turn done ten times in order to earn income from villages. Or maybe one would need a more configurable calculation of the gold bonus.

There should be some indication that the guards are randomly placed because not everyone know that the maps can be randomized when the guards are placed such that you can't sneak through (I needed 3 tries before I got a feasible map)

Maybe it just takes very very long to complete?
The last percent is the hardest as all processing is done there.

Try leaving wesnoth up and do something else in the meantime.
CPU load should be high

Savegame from turn 1 scenario2(3 if you count the interim council) doesn't load:

Attempt to create a unit on the recall ist of side 1 which doesn't have a recall list.

After closing the gates

After closing the gates in the 2nd scenario, there was one elf left outside of the caves, who also had to be killed even if he wasnt inside the caves as the objective suggested.

The maruader assassin's tend to attack every single unit surrounding Leithan, and then attack Vaniyera, which results in a game loss.
