Re: New Battle Theme? - Percussion ensemble and choir

...if that is what you meant, yobbo. Looking at your post again, I might have read more into it than what you intended. Well, I did kind of leave that unspecified. I do feel that even if an experimental percussion piece is unsuitable for mainline it shouldn't be discouraged. I know that if I were d...

Re: Over the Northern Mountains (Cold :P)

Heh, yeah :). Of course there are differences. But without some underlying reason to pick one or another, the differences don't have much weight. My underlying reason for liking the original reverb was it's coldness / crispness. I'm fairly happy to agree that the 960 reverb does sound "nicest&q...

Re: Over the Northern Mountains (Cold :P)

Lacking experience actually messing around with this stuff myself, all I can tell you is how it sounds to me. You can take this into account (which I believe in this case you already have), or not! Incidentally, after listening to all those copies done with different reverb... it all sounds the same...

Re: Solemn Autumn - Battle Theme

Interesting theory. So I am trying to hide how ineffective the music is by muddying it up with reverb? I'd appreciate a second opinion as this is the first time I've heard anything of the sort. :| Maybe I am reading you incorrectly. What I mean to imply is that the base music is good, but the rever...

Re: Wesnoth Theme - Emotion music

Don't try to over-analyze why it's doing what it is. FEEL it. Oh I feel it. It gave me a splitting headache panning back and forth like that :?. You don't need to move the individual instruments to move the music around. You just need to make sure the instruments are placed separately, and that the...

Re: Solemn Autumn - Battle Theme

If that's what you're going for... I'd really recommend making sure the chord progressions and melodies don't clash. Have you tried working with individual echoes / delays to build up the effect yourself, in stead of using a canned reverb? I think you might be able to do something quite interesting ...

Re: Wesnoth Theme - Emotion music

Why is the harp sliding all over the place? It's really annoying :?.

The whole piece is a bit over-the-top.

The simple melody gets repetitive extremely quickly.

Nonetheless I thought the explosion of sound at 1:16 was awesome :). Hehe

Re: Over the Northern Mountains (Cold :P)

Ugh. So umm, I have to ask. What are you guys listening to this stuff on? Personally I vastly prefer being able to hear the sampling artifacts to having them masked with an unrealistic reverb. I'm better with visual examples, so here is my impression of the basic idea as applied to pixel art ;). Her...

Re: New Battle Theme? - Percussion ensemble and choir

West, you are looking at this piece in entirely the wrong way It is an artsy world-music piece ;). There's no way this is supposed to be an orchestral percussion piece. It's not supposed to have punch, loud bass drums, huge ensembles or additional instruments. It's performed in a small space with ha...

Re: Solemn Autumn - Battle Theme

In most of this piece I really have no idea what is supposed to be going on :?. It could be because of the reverb / echoes which really linger. I can't tell if the actual melodies are dischordant or if it's just the echoes of previous notes which are clashing with the current ones. But throughout mo...

Re: New Battle Theme? - Percussion ensemble and choir

I finally gave this piece a really good listen and I really like it :). The texture, the reverb, the timing, and the expression are all excellent. It really does feel like two different songs with the same theme though. I don't think this is a bad thing. Just it might be more useful to scenario desi...

Re: new gameplay theme

The first thing I notice when listening to this is that the instruments both don't seem to have an individuality, and don't seem to have any cohesiveness. They seem like they were just pointed at some notes and they happen to be playing them at the exact same time as each other.

Re: New stuff, new methods, new music (6/3)

Heh, this really is nothing like the original :). But the production is much nicer in the latest version. A few things I noticed: The drums all through could use a little more reverb to extend them and make them sound fuller. I like the flute. The horn that comes in around 1:20 sounds really muted a...

Re: Over the Northern Mountains (Cold :P)

So, I'm gonna be the bad guy here and say: this version is much worse than the original. You can apply a gaussian blurr and some bloom to a photo and it will look "soft" and "nice", but if it's a photo of a glacier you will just have a blurry out-of-focus glacier photo. This feel...

Re: Render engine changes

I don't have much to add, except that I would really like to be able to have terrain drawn in front of units. Here's an example using current Wesnoth SVN with the healthbars over the terrain. Also, I found another example of the terrain drawing problems when a unit attacks from the north of a great ...
