I did several balancing changes to make "hard" be playable, too. I also fixed a glitch in the first map and removed the ghosts from the enemy when playing on easy (cf. wesnoth-1.1-svn, ghosts with drain). Hi,

I play BfW for a while, mostly campaigns, rarely MP.
I can not find any manual about what are different eras. I heard about default and age of heros era, but I don't know what do these mean.
Can anyone light a bulb in my mind?

Hi, <IMHO> "Any healing" is maybe misleading. The AI use villages for heal and for better defense (if the unit has better defense in villages). Correct, the AI does not currently know how to use healing/curing. So essentially it would treat healers as a regular unit and any healing they did would be completely accidental on the AI's part. Never forget daytime. I thought at the beginning, that 25% is nothing. On the contrary it can decide battles against heroism.
Never stay next to an unoccupied village! The enemy can go to it and hunt you with high defense and regeneration.

In person I found swordsmen more useful then pikemen. I play TROW. The Orcs have good defense on most terrains and 4 attack instead of 3 is more than counterbalance against firststrike and 5-1 (IIRC) ranged attack.
