That wasn't too long! That was pretty interesting.

For a more formal set of guidelines, do look at esr's

Very interesting talk on Random Number Generators

YouTube: https://youtu.be/45Oet5qjlms FixYT: http://fixyt.com/watch?v=45Oet5qjlms This video is an hour long plus a 15 min Q+A session at the end. It is likely to be of interest to anyone dealing with random number generators - quite possibly of professional interest. People complaining about the We...

I thought they did - provided they were on different allied sides. Am I out of date again?

A closer look at Wesnoth's Storm Trident (image link)

http://theblakeimage.com.au/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/isobel_ariel4_wm-.jpg Who knew the merfolk were secret steampunk fans? Well their secret's out now. There's a couple of other photos of the same model in the artist's portfolio. I picked this one because it advertises the photographer'...

One big difference: the AI has improved. If you find you get caned on AI settings you used to be OK at, that's not you, it's Wesnoth.

Re: Wesnoth 1.12.0

$99 as a one-off is OK by me. Same ballpark as commercial games. Worth celebrating the new release. Thanks Alarantalara for saving me from digging through Apple's pages. Is flattr the best way, then? They take 10%. If someone Official can message me if Wesnoth does want to take me up on the offer, t...

Re: Wesnoth 1.12.0

My congratulations too. Looks very slick. How disappointing that the third-party bug causing part of the last letter to be cut off in the help tips screen is still not fixed. That must be annoying. (Is that a Mac-only annoyance? I don't remember) I do have one minor thing I'd like to note - when you...

Re: Other artists inspirations and References

I'm no artist, but those who are are always going on about lighting and not pillow-shading and stuff. :-) I think this YouTube video I've just stumbled across would clarify elementary principles of lighting for a lot of our budding artists. Photography Lighting Lesson: Remember the Egg! Link: http:/...

Re: 1.10 SP Campaign, Fate of a Princess

Some quick responses from the Campaign Editor :-). These are my takes on the various subjects rather than SkyOne's. While we generally agree on most things there may be some things in this list that he considers differently. Scally - yes, I was aware of its pejorative usage, and that's actualy why I...

Re: Unknown Unit Portrait Request

As an alternative, could something be done with 'a misty obscuring overlay'? I have a campaign with a mysterious dwarf lord - it would be nice to obscure him until he is fully identified. Shadows, mist, smoke, sunbeams/blinding light might all be possible methods. I'm not necessarily asking for an o...

Re: Historical Inaccuracy: Crossbows

Multiple bolts?? But that's preposterous. Wearing my writer head for a moment, I'd much rather spin it the way Drakefriend and Boldek have it. OTOH, given that a turn in Wesnoth is hours long, you should be able to get a reasonable fire rate in game terms out of even a crossbow, so for reasons of 'r...

Re: Exercises in Formula and Lua AI

Hey mattsc, I found a description of a wolves' hunting algorithm in New Scientist 22/10/2011, pg11. In brief: 'Co-operation not vital to hunting in packs' A virtual wolf pack may be possible with just two rules. Each wolf 'moves towards prey until it reached a certain safe distance. It then moves aw...

Re: LordBob's commissionned work

Peanut gallery comments. Hope you don't mind: Definitely don't pay attention to the scale of the 'shield', because it's far too small to be a human-scale shield, unless that guy's literally 30 feet tall. A heater shield would normally be about the length of your arm. But if it was just a heraldic ba...
